WSOP 2016 - Overall Thoughts

Overall Thoughts:

Trip Regrets:
1. Why did Planet Hollywood have to cancel their big 600 PLO 2 flight MTT? Hero realizes they overbooked with the large NLHE Goliath MTT, but that was a really good tournament on many people's calendars. Hero was fortunate to look at Planet Hollywood's Twitter (https://twitter.com/ph_poker/status/745835433980989441) to see the cancellation and notified a couple friends.

2. Hero did not really play that much cash games. There were spots where hero could have, but I did not manage my time well.
Hero also thought about playing a PLO8/LO8/Big O SNG as additional preparation for the corresponding WSOP event (in addition to the GN event), but decided to socialize instead. It was a close decision.

3. There was some chance to jumping in and playing that PLO/PLO8/Big O MTT, but I had caution b/c of size of buyin. Normally, I have fired bullets even with 20-25 BB (Aria), but I paused on this 4 figure MTT. I am sure there were soft spots, but I decided against it.

4. Hero needs to get better at writing hand histories for HU play. It was really tough, and notes were extremely sparse :(

Miscellaneous Thoughts and Observations:
5. Hero noticed his play improved as the trip continued. This has been normal for many of the longer trips.

6. Food comps were simply credited to Total Rewards card instead of paper vouchers. Hero is not sure if value is better in this respect.

Positives:
7. Hero caught up with many poker playing friends (although some were only very briefly), while meeting new people throughout the circuit.

8. It was great to play first ever live HU tournament. Hero thought structure was quite good, but hero also was ways to improve. It was not surprising to see the tournament sell out.

9. Hero was happy to have played well in many of the tournaments.
It was the first time hero had to rebook flight/hotel for an extended stay for a trip. A WSOP day 3 was a good reason to do it versus makinng a mistake.

Due to unexpected Day 3 for hero, hero is forced to rebook hotel and flight.
Hero's tweet before tournament:
I am fortunate and thankful to be in this spot in day 3. There is a lot to go and many challenges ahead.

Unfortunately, hero is unable to rebook anything that night, which causes hero to not sleep very well.
Hero falls standard routine, but shows up 4 minutes late.

Hero notices an info sheet that can be filled out to provide more information about hero on live reporting. Hero thinks about filling it out, but hero does not actually fill it out.

Analysis:

---------------
Level 22 - Blinds: 8000/16000

Hero dealt in BB: Ax Qh 5x 4x

Read: Vil6 seemed to be playing really weak tight.
(7 handed, Seats 4 and 8 are empty)
Preflop:
Vil6 (HJ, 142k): raises to 42000
(folds to Hero)
Hero (BB, 300k): folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero may be ok with trying to gamble preflop, but Vil6 seemed really weak/tight and may only be raising AAxx or strong A2B/A3B hands. Hero decides to wait for a better spot.

---------------
Hero dealt in But: Ad 5s 4h 3c

Link: http://www.wsop.com/tournaments/update/1QSV/kenneth-po-wins-a-three-way-pot/

---------------
As play continues, hero observes action at other table. One player (James A. in Texas Longhorns gear), talks to hero and asks about one player who seems to be taking a while on every action. This player was moved from hero's table to other table to rebalance when there were 14 or so (IIRC).
Hero gives analogy to "Ken Griffey Jr." which James remembers in the future.

Additionally, Mike Matusow makes another appearance on scooter and talks to seat 2 for a while. Mike does not remember hero from day 1 (which is not surprising).

Another PLO8 reg (Nathan W.) introduced himself and wished hero good luck.

---------------
Hero may have had 1-2 SB/BB battles where hero raised preflop and Vil2 folds.
There were other SB/BB battles where hero may have just folded to the BB.

---------------
Hero dealt in SB: Ac Jx 9x 2c

(6 handed, Seats 3, 4, and 8 are empty)
Preflop:

Hero (SB): calls
Vil2 (BB): checks

Flop: Qs 2c 3c

River: Qs 2c 3c 9s Jh
Hero: bets 45000
Vil2: calls

Vil2: shows Qx 9x 3x 2x

Vil2: wins pot

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero starts to try to limp entire playable range. Hero starts strategy after possibly making a mistake raising earlier in a SB/BB battle as SB.
Flop: Standard. Hero has little equity with counterfeited nut low.
Turn: Standard. Hero has 2 pair which may be best. Hero bets for value. Vil2's calling range looks like low draws + bad pair, 2 pairs, and some flush draws.
River: Standard. Hero bets better 2 pair for value. Unfortunately, Vil2's hand is near top of range.

---------------
Hero dealt in CO: As Kx Qx Js

(6 handed, Seats 3, 4, and 8 are empty)
Preflop:

Hero (CO): raises to 34000

Analysis:

---------------
Hero dealt in But: Ad Tx 7x 2d

(6 handed, Seats 3, 4, and 8 are empty)
Preflop:

(other players fold)

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.

---------------
Hero's stack at Level 23 break (Blinds: 10000/20000) - 256000

---------------
During break, one of hero's poker/PLO8 friends (Greg E.) walks around with hero and offers to listen and give advice on any questions that hero has.
Hero discusses SB/BB battle from earlier. Greg E. gave some good feedback on the hand and said it may have been a small mistake to bet the river. It would probably have been better to let Vil2 bluff missed draws.

Greg E. also provides guidance through text messages on small blind ranges and generally limping entire range, while limp/reraising strongest hands.
Hero is very thankful for this advice.

---------------
Level 23 - Blinds: 10000/20000

Hero dealt in CO: As 8c 4c 2c

(6 handed, Seats 3, 4, and 8 are empty)
Preflop:
Vil4 (UTG): raises to 45000
(folds to Hero)
Hero (But): calls
Vil2 (SB): folds
Vil4 (BB): calls

(3 players - 145000 in pot)
Flop: Ts 6c 4d
Vil2: bets 126000 (all in)
Vil4: thinks for a bit (slightly more than normal time), then folds
Hero: thinks for a bit, then calls

Vil4: shows 8h 7s 5c 3c

(2 players - 397000 in pot, 1 player all in)
Board: Ts 6c 4h 6d 4s

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero is somewhat concerned about a squeeze from SB or BB, but neither player had squeezed in 2+ levels.
Flop: Standard, but it was a little close and hero needed to do math to double check.
Hero's needed equity = (amount to call)/(pot size + villain's bet + amount to call)
Hero's needed equity = 126000/(145000+126000+126000)
Hero's needed equity = 31.73%

Even against worst case scenario of {set + nut low draw), hero has 25% equity. Against a bad hand like AT2x, hero has ~31% equity.

Basically, hero has enough equity even against worse case scenarios. Fortunately, hero's actual equity against this hand is much higher (hero is slight favorite). Hero also scoops (204/820) = 24.8% of time.

Play stops. The unofficial final table of 10 is formed.
It is placed at ESPN Final Table 1.

All the chairs are draped with black.
Unfortunately, there are 3 other final tables occurring at the same time, so the final table was not going to be live streamed.

The final table would be tight fitting since it normally fits 9 players (while unofficial final table is 10 players).

Hero was talking about how he wasn't able to get an "all in triangle" when at EPT.
One of the dealers at the start of the final table was kind enough to put one on hero's chair and said to put it away. Hero is thankful to said dealer.

Hero noticed a print out listing all 10 players at final table and approximate chip counts.
Final Table Dealers are randomly selected based on dealing well and winning a raffle. There were 3 dealers that rotated in and out while the floor was assisting the televised tournament tables rather than hero's final table.

---------------
As final table starts, hero is able to talk to some friends who are railing.
Friends were able to give advice and/or previous experiences to hero:

Francis:
1. Seat 1 is likely inexperienced in PLO8. He may be playing really tight.
2. Seat 3 won HORSE event and is likely very experienced/tough player.
Sean:
1. Seat 2 was extremely loose and aggressive 4 handed in a PLO8 MTT at Venetian.

One of hero's friends offered to help refill water bottle for hero. Hero was thankful for gesture but declined. Hero wanted to stand up and move around.

Turn: This is a tough spot. Although hero is last to act and has uncounterfeitable nut low, hero could be getting quartered. Vil10 was competent from previous history. Hero decides to fold instead of trying to win 5BBs (or spike a high hand that may cost hero more chips).

(folds to Hero)
Hero: tanks for ~3-4 minutes, says it's ok to call clock, then folds
Vil4: says "If you took that long your hand was no good."

Analysis:
Preflop: Tough spot. Hero does have 3 low cards which helps hero's hand strength to avoid elimination. Ultimately, hero decides to fold and save chips for a better spot.

After the hand (and possibly off to the side away from table), Vil4 mentions AQQW (hero doesn't remember if it was a 3, 4, or 5).

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero has great AAw hand in position.
Flop: Standard. Hero has board crushed and is trying to get value.
Turn: Standard. Hero tries to extract value on turn from a turned broadway straight or a player thinking a flush might be good. Hero's bet size seems ok, but hero needs to be careful about being consistent on lock down boards such as this one (full house on board, no low draw). Unfortunately, hero is unable to get any action.
There is some thought in just waiting until river and trying to get 1 street of value instead.

Hero's stack at Level 25 break (Blinds: 1500/30000) - 403000

---------------
Hero almost did not make it back in time after break. Luckily, Vil5 motioned to "hurry up" as hero was sprinting and out of breath. Hero was fortunate to make it in time to play his hand (before all hole cards were dealt).

---------------
During play, Vil6 talks about a mutual New Zealand friend who plays PLO8.
Hero then recalls that they met a couple years prior during break at one of the Venetian PLO8 MTTs. Hero remembers that both people graduated from the same university.

Hero joked that this should be put in the Case alumni magazine.

Hero is fortunate to have a number of friends join the rail.
Greg E.
Francis L. and girlfriend Sarah
Sean T. (Cleveland poker friend)

Hero reacquaints with 1 player from the Binion's PLO MTT.
Hero also reacquaints with Angela J. from day 1. She is most interested in railing seat 10.
One of hero's friends from EPT Malta also made a quick stop and wished hero good luck. He was mainly checking in to see seat 3's status.

Level 25 - Blinds: 15000/30000

(folds to Vil7)
Vil8 (But, ~250k): raises to 100000
Hero (SB, ~400k): thinks for a bit, then folds
Vil10 (BB, 1.3m): folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Somewhat tight. Vil8 is playing tight and straightforward as a short stackc. Hero decides to fold because hero did not show initiative, is OOP, and there is a super small chance of a squeeze. This may have been a better spot to perhaps call and see a lot of flops if either player was deeper.

---------------
Hero sees a broadway board chop pot. But, hero's not sure if this just went unrecorded in the WSOP HH or if it may have been a miswritten note.

Vil10 (UTG+1): calls

Hero: bets 90000

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: A bit risky, but there is fold equity with broadway board against PLO8 player who probably has a tighter range calling a UTG raise. Vil10 most likely has many low cards like hero. Hero probably check/folds on (T-K) and flushing turn cards.

The two exchange a handshake as the pot is chopped up.

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard to raise and call. Classic PLO8 all in situation, although Vil7's hand is dominated with dead K.

---------------
At one point in tournament, hero's mindsight changed unexpectedly. Throughout most of day 2 and most of final table, hero was happy to be here.
Hero's mood changed for some reason with Vil5 continuing to stay alive and double/build chips. Hero rooted for elimination for the first time, realized his mental mistake, and refocused on efforts to play well and enjoy the experience.

---------------
Level 26 - Blinds: 20000/40000

Hero dealt in SB: As Kc 3s 2c

(6 handed, Seats 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, and 10)
Preflop:
(folds to Hero)
Hero (SB, ~400k): calls
Vil10 (BB, 1.4m): raises pot (120k total)
Hero: reraises pot
Vil10: reraises all in
Hero: calls

Vil10: shows Ad Kx 7x 2x

(2 players - in pot, 1 player all in)
Board: 4x 8x 3x 3x Qx

Hero: wins 3/4 pot
Hero's stack: ~700k

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero runs up against top of villain's range, but hero is fortunate to get 3/4 pot.

Hero thanks Greg E. for advice and implementing it just a couple levels later.
Hero also apologizes to Vil10 for seemingly making his life hard throughout the tournament.

---------------
Level 26 - Blinds: 20000/40000

Hero dealt in BB: Ax Qx 6x 3x

Read: Vil3 was positionally aware over the ~7-8 levels of play with hero.
(6 handed, Seats 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, and 10)
Preflop:
(folds to Hero)
Vil3 (HJ): raises to ~100k
Hero (BB): folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Without any suits, this is a moderately tight fold. Vil3 was opening a pretty normal (tight) opening range. Hero was a bit concerned about playing OOP against this player, but hero probably should have taken a flop.

---------------
Level 26 - Blinds: 20000/40000

Hero dealt in HJ: Ax Kx 6x 4x

Read: Vil5 seemed to be playing tight. Hero had been fairly tight too.
(6 handed, Seats 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, and 10)
Preflop:
Vil5 (UTG): raises to 80k
Hero (HJ): tanks, folds

Analysis:
Preflop: A fold seems best. A call could be made since hero perceives an edge against player, but hero does not have great nut potential in either direction, and it could be a multiway pot. Hero could also try to reraise and get fold equity.

---------------
Hero's stack at Level 27 break (Blinds: 25000/50000) - ~500k (hero did not write down chip count)

---------------
At dinner, some of hero's friends offered to help buy food, etc..., so hero can relax. Hero was thankful for the offer to help, but decided to run solo to help with focus.

As it turns out, Vil5 almost did not make it back in time for the final table restart after dinner. Hero was able to return the favor and motion to Vil5 that he should hurry up, lest he miss a hand as well.

Hero was not feeling super well throughout the day. Hero wanted to try to nap and/or relax during break and was able to pray/calm down before play resumed.

Updated Final Table Chip Counts and Reads (Table ESPN FT1):

Level 27 - Blinds: 25000/50000

Preflop:

Vil5 (CO): folds
Hero (But): calls
Vil10 (SB): calls
Vil2 (BB): calls

(4 players - 600k in pot)
River: 7h 5d 4c 2d 8c
(all players check, including hero who thinks for a bit before checking)

Vil3: shows Kd Td 8d 5h (two pair)
Vil4 shows Ax 4x Xx Xx (low)
Hero: shows A4 (low)

Hero gets 1/4 pot.

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: This feels like a standard play. Hero does not really have a strong hand at this point, and hero may have best hand for high. There is little fold equity on a 3 low board.
Turn: Closer, but this actually could have been a steal spot. A 350k bet probably takes it down, as many players with A3 or 63 would bet.
River: Same as turn. Without hindsight being 20/20, there was a good chance hero may have been able to steal the whole pot.

---------------
Vil5 jokes that Vil2 should join the cash game afterwards. Vil2 was playing a huge range of hands.
Vil2's aggression was very high.

Vil3 triples up. Link: http://www.wsop.com/tournaments/update/1R4I/marco-johnson-triples-up/

Play started to get a bit tighter. No pots were contested more than HU.
It may be a function of the (relative) short stacks. While 5-8 BBs is a lot in PLO8, there seems to be a lot of ICM pressure for the short stacks.

One of hero's friends (Sean) tries to get an idea of ICMs. Hero shows stack and talks with friend during break.
Hero says that "It would be good to get 5th based on ICM".

---------------
Level 27 - Blinds: 25000/50000

Hero dealt in HJ: Ac Kc 8c 5x

Read: Hero was playing fairly tight.
(6 handed, Seats 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, and 10)
Preflop:
(folds to Hero)
Hero (HJ, ~400k): raises to 175k
(other players fold)

Analysis:
Preflop: Not normally a raise in HJ, but hero is playing off tight image. Hero is also short on chips (~8 BB), so that is why the raise is bigger.

---------------
Hero dealt in BB: Ah 8x 8x 5h

(6 handed, Seats 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, and 10)
Preflop:

Hero (BB): folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. This is a weak hand to call.

Hero is happy that a PLO8 player wins the bracelet. He seemed to play very well in hero's extended time playing together.
Hero was walking around and bumped into winner after hero talked with various friends.
Hero was able to see bracelet and talk to David and Angela who was railing throughout.
Hero asked if interview was required. The answer was no.

Hero also bumped into Rikard (who hero played with on day 1) sat payouts and thanked hero for a job well done.

Vil3 was also a tough opponent. Vil4 seemed to be fairly tough too.
Hero received a great complement that Hero was playing tough throughout.

Hero out in 5th of 732 entries.
This is hero's first WSOP Final Table.

Analysis/Thoughts:
Hero is thankful for the many friends (live and online) who helped hero especially throughout tournament.
Greg E, Francis, Sean, Steph, Steve, and others were very helpful throughout the day. It was also nice to get some quick shout outs from Benny, Angela, and others.

Hero is also happy with play, especially in day 3 when hero was sleep deprived and not feeling too well.
The field became quite tough towards the end, but that is to be expected with many PLO8 specialists as well as smarter mixed game players in the field.

(2 players - 10000 in pot)
River: 7c 5x 3c Ac 6x
Hero: checks
Vil4: bets 7500
Hero: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Standard. Hero has little equity with 1 pair and 8 low.
Turn: Standard. It is more prudent to check because the board is fairly locked down with a flush.
River: Is there merit in turning hand into bluff and betting? Hero decides to check and decide. Unfortunately, the board is extremely coordinated, so Vil4 may be value betting (rivered straight rather than a bad flush) or bluffing. Hero folds as Hero can only really beat a bluff.

Board: Qx 6d 2x Td 8x

Hero: gets 3/4 pot
Hero's stack: 84000 -> 170000

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Standard. Hero has decent 2 way hand (bottom 2 pair, 2nd nut low draw).
Turn: This was a bit tricky and non-standard. Hero follows read that Vil9 likely has AAxx, so hero might be ahead for both sides of the pot. Hero decides to try to get maximum value before a scare card on the river. Hero is fortunate that read is exactly right, with Vil7 only having 2nd nut low draw.

(2 players - 13600 in pot)
Flop: Kc 8c 4c
Hero: bets 11000
Vil1: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Standard. Hero is bet/folding since Vil1's calling and/or raising range is any flush. The board is monotone, so there is fold equity even though there are 2 low cards on board. Hero can easily have nut flush and nut low draw as part of range.

Analysis:

Flop: Hero bet too large on flop. A more reasonable bet size is 5500-6500. This bet is ok on this board texture because hero has decent equity as a semibluff.

Analysis:

Flop: This could actually be a bet with bottom 2 pair. But, hero decides to keep pot small.
Turn: Standard. With low completing, there is little fold equity. Hero tries to get to showdown.
River: Standard. Hero does not likely have best high hand with tens and sixes. Even if this is a bluff, it might be a bluff with the best hand (naked low draw).

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Although hero has 3 low cards, A85 is not really that great of a low. Hero's previous history is that Vil1 is thinking and isolating hero with a wide range. Unfortunately, hero's hand is crushed by Vil1's likely range (AAxx, AB2 or AB3 with counterfeit protection, etc...)

Hero's stack: ~210k

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Standard.
Turn: Hero's notes indicate "value raise with redraw as an option".
Hero is unsure if check/raise is best play. It seemed like a better play to value raise with redraw, but there may have been better value to just let Vil1 continue to bluff. Additionally, hero might also be freerolled by an unlikely A56 hand.

---------------
Hero dealt in But: Tx 7x 6x 6x

Reads: Vil2 is a nit, while Vil1 is a PLO8 player and somewhat tight.
Preflop:

Vil2 (BB): folds

(2 players - 26500 in pot)
Flop: 8x 2x 6x

Analysis:
Preflop: Read based only raise. If Vil2 was not a nit and Vil1 was a looser player, this is a standard fold.
Flop: Standard. Hero was hoping to steal pot.

Analysis:

Flop: Standard. On a dry board, hero is ok with keeping pot small. A hero raise would not get worse hands to call.
Turn: Standard. Hero hopes to see another bet from Vil6, but this does not work.
River: Hero took time with hand. Hero realizes that a backdoor flush could be a small part of Vil6's range. However, hero double checks stack size and what options that leaves hero if wrong. Hero decides that hand is best against Vil6's range and calls.

Vil6: ahows Ax 7x 7x 2x
Hero: wins 3/4 of pot.

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero has 4 wheel cards.
Flop: Standard. Hero has very good redraws to try to 3/4 villain.
Turn: Somewhat close, but this is the better play. Hero is not necessarily trying to get huge amounts of value when Vil6 could be betting 2 streets with nut flush draw. Hero may not have placed enough emphasis on Vil6's bet size (small). Would a straight forward villain with no history bet small on a flushing turn? Maybe, but this seems more like a blocking bet. But, hero's flush is the lowest possible.
River: When Vil6 checks, it is very likely hero has best hand. Hero bets for value and is called. (If Vil6 check raises, it would be a tough spot since Vil6 would have to believe hero is possibly bluffing or value betting worse and would call.)

Hero: wins pot

Hero's stack: ~15000

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Hero does not remember exact action. This was hero's best recollection. This is relatively standard.
Turn: Hero picks up top pair and nut flush draw. This may have been a possible spew, but hero is only really concerned about A42x which is such a small part of Vil7's range. Hero has strong enough equity to try to get all the money in and likely be in a freeroll spot with flush/top 2 pair/wheel freeroll (although less likely a wheel freeroll since it is more likely Vil7 has an A2 too in the jam range).

Hero makes positive comment about Meowth cap.

After the hand, a PokerNews reporter wanted to get the hand history. Hero was able to disclose everything to the reporter.
The reporter mentions that this player ran very deep in this tournament last year.

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Standard. Hero has nuts with low draw on board. It was very fortunate that Vil6 had the exact hand that would commit, then Vil6's nut low gets counterfeited on the river.

Ironically, the last player on the list is pretty important and wins the whole thing.

Analysis:

Flop: Somewhat standard. Vil7 may fold a ton of range.
Turn: Standard. Hero has weak high/no low and little fold equity.
River: Hero bets to try to push Vil7 out of half the pot and to possibly get value from a weaker two pair. While there is a chance that Vil7 may scoop hero anyway, hero believes there may enough fold equity.

Hero's stack: ~23025 -> ~18000

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Standard. Vil5 is more likely to have a bad made high hand.
Turn: Standard. Vil5 has a very wide range (2p, straight/bad low, naked nut low). Hero may get many better high hands to fold or possibly set up a freeroll situation. Unfortunately, Vil5 has top of range with top pair and nut low.

Hero also suspects that Vil5 had slowed down and backed away from previous aggressive maniac image.

Hero: snap calls

Vil4: shows Ah Qx Th 4x
Vil4: eliminated
Hero: wins pot

Hero's stack: 17000 -> 27650

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Not standard. This is usually a spot to check/fold in PLO8. But, hero decides to play it like PLO8 and float.
Turn: Standard. Hero is not able to allow Vil1 to check back and possibly get half the pot with hero having little equity.
River: Standard. Hero does not see value in betting as draws would fold (or possibly bluff raise). Hero realizes most of Vil4's range consists of low draws (which bricked) and weaker high hands. There were few hands (sets, backdoor straights) that beat Hero.
Hero is fortunate to go with a non-standard play throughout hand to win big pot.

River: 7x 9x 4x Jx 3x (likely still rainbow)
Vil4: bets 1000
Hero: raises to 5000
Vil4: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: A somewhat loose open with A45 in CO. Hero targets tighter players to hero's left.
Flop: A bit loose. Hero is better off checking behind. The board does not counterfeit any A2/A3 hands, so there is little fold equity.
Turn: Standard, although it is close to a bet. Hero generates fold equity on a high brick turn.
River: This was a very non-conventional player against someone who is tight. Does Vil4 play well enough to fold a naked low/bad pair?

(2 players - 5500 in pot)
Flop: 4d Kx 4x

Analysis:

Analysis:

Flop: A bet or a check works. Hero decides to check to help protect hero's check back range. Hero has ok equity, but equity is not nuttish in either way in a 3 way pot.
Turn: Standard. Hero has 2nd nut low draw and top pair. Hero would check/fold most rivers since a call is likely 54xx or 64xx.

Analysis:

Flop: A bet could work too. There is not as much fold equity on a 2 low paired board though.
Turn: Hero has low flush. Hero could try to raise for value, but what worse 2 way hands are calling? Trips + nut low?
Would a bad flush fold?
River: This was likely a missed bet when checked to hero for value or to push Vil6 out of pot. Hero likely would get value from some worse 2 way hands, or possibly buy a scoop via fold equity.

Analysis:

Flop: A bet can also work. Hero is trying to avoid continuation betting (c-betting) flop too often to protect hero's ranges. It's also more standard in PLO8 tournaments to not always bet flop especially on high boards.
Turn: Hero bets with likely the best hand with aces up for value. Hero is unlikely to bet river if called.

---------------
During the last couple levels, hero befriended Allen Li who was at another table and won a lot of chips.

Mike Matusow also spent a bunch of time talking to hero. He mentioned that he did not want to late register for this tournament because there is so much dead money.
He seemed to be really nice, although he used a lot of profanity.
He also let hero take 1 pot without putting up much of a fight because he was really tired.
He mentioned that in the "hey day" (pre-Black Friday), he would care less about the money. Now, he cares a ton about the money.

Allan Kessler noticed that hero always took a lot of notes on various pieces of paper.
He recommended following Jonathan Little's precedent of using a small note book. It's a little larger than a smartphone, but Jonathan uses it to journal about hand histories.

Hero reconnected with Paul, a British poker player who he played and talked about bubble spot at the Golden Nugget. He seemed competent. We had also played at Venetian PLO8 (Day 1A).
