8-16 Limit Omaha Hi-Lo with Half Kill at Bay 101 and San Francisco and San Jose Trip Report

8/16 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo with half kill using $2 chips. Kill is for certain minimum scooped pot.

Hero played 2 rotations in a short period after being on the wait list for an hour.

The game was fairly loose. Almost everyone was over the age of 50 sans one lady (maybe in her 40s). There was an Asian player to hero's right.

Table Reads:
1 [empty for hand, eventually older male]
2 middle aged Asian female
3 middle aged guy
4 Hero
5 [empty for hand, eventually older male]
6 older male
7 older male
8 older male (was eventually friendly with hero and talked about where hero was driving from/to)
9 older male

Hero dealt in SB: A632 rainbow

Preflop:
Vil3 (UTG): calls
Hero (UTG+1): calls
Vil6 (HJ): calls
Vil7 (CO): folds
Vil8 (But): calls
Vil9 (SB): calls
Vil2 (BB): checks

(6 players - 18 small bets in pot)
Flop: 8c 8d 3h

(6 players - 12 big bets in pot)
Turn: 8c 8d 3h 6h

Vil8: bets
(all players call)

(6 players - 18 big bets in pot)
Flop: 8c 8d 3h 6h 6s
(all players check)

Hero: quickly shows A632
Hero says to Vil7: "I thought you were going to easily bet the river."
Vil7: "That was what I wanted seat 3 to think too."

Analysis:
Flop: Standard bet/call with nut low + pair.
Turn: Hero could check raise the field as hero may have lost value against 8xxx, but hero might be quartering self too.
River: Hero made mistake and should have donk bet the river. Worse 8xxx would call (which at least Vil3 and Vil7 have).

Hero ended up about $200 (15 bets).

Hero also drove around to all of the Bay area (San Francisco and San Jose) poker rooms within 1.5 hours of downtown SF.

European Poker Trip - Overall Thoughts

Assorted Thoughts:
1A. A younger British poker player (T.) at one of the tables knew some German (Deutsch). This was a very classic comment as a couple of the players featured primarily German speakers: "Only English at the Tisch".
1B. Usually, only English (and native language) are allowed when cards are in the air.
2. Live Spin and Gos were interesting with the spinning wheel indicating prize values.
3. Mixed Games:
3A. Some players still do not know how to play mixed games.
3B. A couple did not know Badeucy/Badacey in Quintuple Draw including PS Pro.
3C. A couple players only knew LO8 in Splitsville.
4. Hero's choice to play the NLHE MTT Turbo in Rozvadov meant little to no sleep (~3 hours) on way back to USA.
5. Hero somewhat regrets not playing a NLHE MTT while in Malta. There were many opportunities after busting many of the early MTTs.

Dealers, Poker Tournament Floors/Directors, and Poker Media:
Ran into Big Andy (originally met in NOLA and was a big LHE player). He's from Omaha but married and moved to Switzerland.
Met Gaetano (who recognized me from WSOP Dealer's Choice). He was dealing in the EPTs.
French dealers were pitching cards differently. They were moving the deck to each player and taking top card off (similar to standard draw procedure, keeping the card close to the felt.
Hero ran into Troy and Steve in Rozvadov when there was little likelihood of meeting anyone. (Troy was first tournament director that hero met outside of LV when in NOLA for a week+ in 2010).
Hero ran into Tomas (photographer from EPT Malta) at Rozvadov.
One player from Malta also appeared in Rozvadov.

Poker Bling:
1. WSOP Europe lanyard.
2. PokerStars EPT branded COPAG plastic playing cards. Sadly, they only were available for one day and I only grabbed 4 :( They only had blue varieties, but red ones exist.
3. EPT Malta T-Shirt
4. PokerStars online qualifier bling (hero was able to ask towards end of festival and they said "don't tell anyone, but here's gear")
4A. PokerStars beach towel (red with stripes)
4A. Ipanema brand PokerStars flip flops (red spade on front of flip flop).
4B. PokerStars branded draw string bag.
5. PokerStars dealer's button/puck.
6. A less than official "dealer's choice" keyring with all the games using dry erase markers.
7. Hero did not get an all in triangle. (all in triangles are common in Europe) or a PokerStars cut card.
8. Miscellaneous patches

200 NLHE Turbo at King's Casino

200 Turbo NLHE MTT at King's Casino for WSOP Circuit (International).
15000 starting chips at 25/50 blinds and 15 min. levels.

---------------
First Table Reads:
1 hero
2 guy with long hair and beard
3 old guy with glasses
4 young guy with hoodie, had SCOOP watch (level 13 - young guy with beard, level 14 - old guy with cap)
5 (level 11) big guy
6 guy with long hair, headset
7 (level 11) purple shirt, mid aged guy
8 bald old guy with sunglasses
9 young guy with beard and hat.

---------------
Hero could have registered at level 6. Hero eventually decided to late register just at end of level 7.

Hero debated a while about whether to enter MTT or not. Hero originally planned to go before trip started. But after making day 2, the plans changed.

At hero's registration time, there were 259 entries (including reentries) with 181 remaining).

---------------
Level 7 - Blinds: 200/400, Ante: 50

Hero dealt in button: Qc 9c

Preflop:
Vil9 (CO): called
Hero (But): raised to 1650
Vil1: called

(2 players - 4350 in pot)
Flop: Qx Tc 6c
Vil9: checks
Hero: bets 2600
Vil9: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Standard.

---------------
Hero's stack at Level 9 break: 16500 @ 300/600/50

---------------
Level 10 - Blinds: 400/800, Ante: 100

Hero dealt in SB: ATo

Preflop:
(folds to Vil7)
Vil7 (HJ): raises to 1600
Vil8 (CO): calls
(folds to hero)
Hero (SB): raises all in (~16k)
Vil7: folds
Vil8: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: What is bottom of hero's shoving range? Could hero shove "air" (ex) T9s)? ATo seemed like good squeeze spot.

---------------
Level 11 - Blinds: 500/1000, Ante: 100

Hero dealt in SB: 76o

Preflop:
(folds to Vil2)
Vil5 (UTG+1): calls
Hero (SB): calls
Vil2 (BB, 7k): checks

(3 players - 3900 in pot)
Flop: Qc 7h 5d
Hero: bets 1900
Vil2: folds
Vil5: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Vil5 seemed to be passive; thus, this was a call since the likelihood of getting raised was low. If villain appeared to be competent, this could be a fold.
Flop: Hero bets to get value from an Ax or bottom pair that could call.

---------------
Hero dealt in button: A8s

Preflop:
(folds to hero)
Hero (But): raises to 2200
Vil2 (SB): folds
Vil3 (BB): folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.

---------------
Hero dealt in CO: 77

Preflop:
(folds to Vil8)
Vil8 (UTG+2): calls
(folds to hero)
Hero (CO): raises to 3300
Vil2 (But): raises to 6400 (all in)
Vil8: folds
Hero: calls

Vil2: shows 44

Board: Ax 6h 2h Jx 9x

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard hero isolation. Given hero's pot odds, hero is calling. The question: Is there a stack size where hero does not call button shove?

---------------
Level 12 - Blinds: 600/1200, Ante: 200

Hero dealt in CO: AQs

Preflop:
(folds to Vil8)
Vil8 (UTG+2): calls
Hero: (CO, ~23k): raises to 4000
Vil3 (SB, ~30k): reraises all in (30k)
Hero: thinks for a while, then folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Isolation raise is standard. Vil7 was limping often.
What is the correct calling range against SB's shove? Should hero call?
It seemed like the right fold, but maybe it's too tight.

---------------
(7 players)
Level 13 - Blinds: 800/1600, Ante: 200
Hero dealt in : KTo

Preflop:
Hero (UTG+2): raises to 3500
(folds to Vil8)
Vil8 (SB): reraises all in (8800)
Vil9 (BB): folds
Hero: calls

Vil8: shows AA

Board: Kx Tx 3x Jx Ax
Hero's stack: 12500

Analysis:
Preflop: This could be a bit loose in EP. Is hero priced in to call SB's shove (5BB total)? Yes. Hero's knowledge of push/fold tables is tough to know when hero should raise/fold. It might be 17+BBs (with antes) or M > 6.

---------------
Hero's stack: 12500

Hero dealt in button: 77

Preflop:
Vil5 (UTG): raises to 3600
Hero (BB): thinks for a while, then folds.

Analysis:
Preflop: Against a tight opening range, is this a shove with ~10BBs? Hero doubts there is fold equity, so it's strictly an equity calculation.
Hero was unsure and decided to wait for a better spot.

---------------
Hero dealt in UTG+2: J9s

Preflop:
Hero (UTG+2): folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Is this a leak push/fold chart wise? It does not appear to be the case based on a referenced push/fold chart.

---------------
(next hand)
Hero dealt in UTG+1: K6o

Preflop:
(folds to hero)
Hero (BB): raises all in (12k)
(all players fold)

Analysis:
Preflop: This hand seems to be worse candidate given worse position and actual hand. This is actually a fold based on a referenced push/fold chart.

---------------
Level 14 - Blinds: 1000/2000, Ante: 300
Hero's stack: 12400

Hero dealt in CO: Kd 4d

Preflop:
(folds to hero)
Hero (CO): raises all in (12.4k)
Vil4 (BB): calls

Vil4: shows Ah Ts

Board: 9c 8c Ac 7c 4x

Analysis:
Preflop: According to the referenced push/fold chart, this is close. Hero is pretty sure an all in shove is correct GTO play.

---------------
Hero out in 79th of 259 runners (216 unique players, 41 re-entries). 27 places paid.

The field seemed really soft even for hero's modest and rusty NLHE MTT experience.

550 PLO at King's Casino - Day 2

550 PLO MTT at King's Casino for WSOP Circuit (International).
20000 starting chips at 25/50 blinds and 40 min. levels. One re-entry is allowed.

Final Table Chip Counts and Reads:
1 98,300 (seat 9 from last table) - middle/older aged player with card suits tatoo. He seemed to be a PLO regular and was playing highest stakes.
2 86,700 younger guy
3 149,900 younger male with black, slicked back hair
4 115,100 hero
5 59,900 younger male with headphones
6 158,000 (seat 8 from last table) - younger/middle aged male - player in higher stakes 10/25-25/50 PLO games that were running during the WSOP-C.
This player wanted to avoid continuing/playing out the entire tournament on day 1 (or even getting ITM).
7 163,000 mid aged male, first met at EPT Malta in various events (like Splitsville DC)
8 266,400 (seat 7 from last table) - older guy with cowboy style shirt (was very loose player in earlier play)

Analysis:

Vil6: checks

(2 players - 13200 in pot)
Turn: Ts 3h 2c Qh
Hero: bets 7000
Vil6: raises to 20000
Hero: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero could reraise preflop, but stacks are too deep.
Flop: Hero likely check/calls this flop with possibly best hand (and some redraws to sets or straights).
Turn: Hero decides to bet for value and price out draws. A worse Qxxx or Txxx may call. Vil6's raise could be on a steal, but it also hit a lot of broadway type rundowns. Hero decides to fold since hero could be way behind.

---------------
Hero made a nitty fold with 9x 6x 5c 4c to an opening EP raise when in position.
Hero folded 9c 7c 5x 4x in BB to a Vil8 PFR raise and Vil9 reraised pot.

Vil5: shows Tx 7x 6x 5d
Board: 5x 4d 3d Kc Ts

Hero and Vil5 chop pot.

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard, although this is the lowest rundown hero would call.
Flop: Standard. Hero has a huge redraw and is freerolling well against another opponent.

---------------
Seat 9 gets eliminated within first 30 minutes. 8 players left.

---------------
Level 14 - Blinds: 1500/3000

Hero dealt in UTG+1: Ax Kc Qx 7c

Preflop:
(folds to Hero)
Hero (UTG+1): raises to 6500
Vil7 (CO): reraises pot (
Hero: thought for a while and remembered that Vil7 was TAG (like hero) and folds.

Analysis:
Preflop: This is a little loose UTG+1, but hero decides to raise AKQ Kxxx suited. When tight villain reraises, hero folds since there is a great fear of domination by AAxx and KKxx.

---------------
Hero dealt in CO: Ad Kc 7c 2d

Preflop:

Hero (CO): calls
Vil7 (BB): calls

(3 players - 28500 in pot)
Flop: Ac Kh 7h
Vil7: checks
Vil8: checks
Hero: bets 15000

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Hero bets top 2 pair/no redraw. Would hero bet/call? Likely.

---------------
Seat 2 gets eliminated sometime in level 15 (or possibly level 16). 7 players left. On the bubble.
The chip leader wanted to give €100 to the bubble person. This was eventually agreed upon by everyone.

---------------
Level 16 - Blinds: 2500/5000

Hero saw this hand preflop:
Vil8 (260k): raised
Vil1 (70k): reraised all in
Vil8: called

Vil8: showed 9987r
Vil1: showed T652r

Board: 4x 7h 3h 5x 8h

Vil1 also made a 3b/fold bluff against Vil6 (likely).
Overall, Vil1 was a maniac for parts of the final table and doubled a couple times on some rather questionable all in preflop hand selection.
Vil7 had lost a bunch of pots and was raise/folding preflop too.

---------------
Hero's stack at Level 17 break: 85000 @ 3000/6000 Blinds.

---------------
Hero dealt in SB: Tc 9d 8c 7d

Preflop:

(all players check)

(3 players - 48000 in pot)
Turn: Th 8d 2c Jd
Hero: bets 42000 (all in)
Vil5: folds
Vil6: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. There is little fold equity and hero would be equity underdog by reraising preflop.
Flop: This may have been a better spot to donk bet all in. Hero thought the likelihood of a cbet was higher though, so hero decided to check.
Turn: Hero could have slowplayed on this street too, but hero decides to bet with the (now) second nuts. Hero takes down the pot.

Hero's stack: 90k

---------------
The bubble bursts after about 2+ hours of bubble play. Unfortunately, hero saw friend in seat 7 become the bubble person.

---------------
Table Reads with 6 Players Left:

1 ~160k maniac in spots, (seat 9 from last table) - middle/older aged player with card suits tatoo. He seemed to be a PLO regular and was playing highest stakes.
2 ~95k younger guy
4 ~93k hero
5 188k younger male with headphones
6 ~200k (seat 8 from last table) - younger/middle aged male - player in higher stakes 10/25-25/50 PLO games that were running during the WSOP-C.
This player wanted to avoid continuing/playing out the entire tournament on day 1 (or even getting ITM).
8 ~330k (seat 7 from last table) - older guy with cowboy style shirt (was very loose player in earlier play)

---------------
Level 18 - Blinds: 4000/8000
Hero dealt in CO: Ax Ax 7x 5x (rainbow)

Preflop:
Vil1 (UTG): folds
Vil2 (HJ): calls
Hero (CO): calls

(5 players - 40000 in pot)
Flop: 9x 4x 3x (rainbow)

Vil8: checks
Vil2: bets 15000
Hero: raises all in (45000)
Vil5: folds
Vil6: reraises all in
Vil8: folds
Vil2: thinks for a little bit, then folds.

Vil6: shows Q99x (Q992?) rainbow

Board: 9c 4d 3h Jc Ks

Analysis:
Preflop: At the time, Hero did not want to setup a bet/call it off spot if villain donk bets any flop. Honestly, it should have been a raise though in general because hero only has 12BBs and would be calling off most flops anyway. Hero might be able to isolate and take it down.
Flop: Hero still flopped fairly well with double gutter and likely best hand if ace comes. Unfortunately, hero runs into top of villain range (which is expected given reraise).

---------------
Talking with seat 4 after HU play.
The eventual winner was trying to strike a deal.
At first, seat 4 resisted and got some extra chips.
Eventually, seat 4 lost some chips and they chopped (including getting a free vacation).
Hero is not sure if deal was officially sanctioned or if it was "under the table".

---------------
Overall Thoughts:
Hero was very fortunate to be in day 2 given some less than optimal play. Hero did not have many good opportunities and missed on a large freeroll. When hero's stack dropped a bunch, hero tightened up and waited for other players to bust. It was appropriate play since hero became relatively short stacked (20BBs) and a probable bubble candidate.

The field was soft in spots early on, but the final table was really tough. There was 1 relative soft spot, while the rest are either very good players or high stakes PLO cash game players. Hero was fortunate to cash.
Additionally, it was the longest bubble hero experienced (2+ hours).

Hero: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: A suited Ace high hand is ok to call for a min raise with 1 other player.
Flop: Hero could check/raise the flop and try to force villain to fold a cbet with a counterfeited A2 among other hands. Hero decides to play conservative OOP.

2. Players 1, 2, and 4 were talking about high stakes online PLO (and player 2 was talking about some of the players playing 10/25 PLO in Malta).

Overall Thoughts:
Hero was very fortunate to run well in too many all in situations. Hero had a couple spots where he lost all in preflop situations, but they were not for tournament life (or hero stayed alive even if hero was quartered). Hero has no complaints with final table. Hero was fortunate that other player busted. Even though it was a bit of a cooler on last hand for hero, hero may not have even made it ITM if AAw did not get cracked.

Hero and Vil2 chop pot.

Analysis:
Preflop: Against a wide button opening range, this is a standard reraise for value.
Flop: Standard. Hero has top and bottom pair + nut low draw and continues to bet.
Turn: Standard bet/call, then river check/call. If hero is raised, how often is hero behind A35x or similar hands?
River: Standard bet/call. The pot would be too big to bet/fold as villain may be raising many boats with non-nut lows

for value.
Is there merit in check/raising? Not really as villains rarely bluff low boards and this villain was not an aggressive

player in limited interactions.

6th Street: Hero likely has best low hand/draw and is likely freerolling (with likely badugi, IIRC). Mandatory bet.
If hero only had a low (3 card 9) and saw villain raise, this could be both players freerolling each other.

Analysis:
3rd Street: This was a tough spot. Hero's hand is relatively dead for pair outs, although hero has a lot of straight

cards out.
Fold? This was hero's choice. It was too many bets to see 4th street, and hero could get further squeezed.
If continuing, what's the proper discard?
Try to spike a 2 out set seems possible (ie: keep 5s)? In a reraised pot, this seems like the worse play because

of large price to hope to see cheap cards.
Try for a 3 low/2 flush (5h 2s)? This seems like the best option if continuing since hero could scoop and/or

have best low draw (although not guaranteed with A raising).

4th Street: Should hero fold? It feels like hand is face up by calling (overpair) and less about set (get more bets into

pot with set).
5th Street: Hero has bricked twice. Hero could continue sometimes, but it will be hard to play hand with just an

overpair. The positive to staying in is hero is likely in position the rest of the way. Hero decides to be conservative

and fold.

Turn: When both villains check, it looks like 1 or both had a weak high only hand. Hero continues aggression.

Hero (SB): raises
Vil3 (BB): calls

(2 players - 4 small bets in pot)

Hero: raises
Vil3: calls

(2 players - 4 big bets in pot)
Turn: Qd 4c Ts 7h
Hero: bets
Vil3: calls

(2 players - 6 big bets in pot)
River: Qd 4c Ts 7h 4c
Hero: bets
Vil3: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: This was a bit ambitious to check raise with only top pair and backdoor draws.
Turn: Hero continues aggression with a possible 2 way hand. Hero would bet/call. Villain may be peeling with worse top pair.
River: This may be a leak since what worse hands are calling? Qxxxx with bad kicker?
Is this really a bluff? Possibly. A good Qxxxx might fold.
It may be better to let villain try to fire river as a missed bluff, but is villain bet/calling with draws on flop.

5th Street: Hero bricked and is up against an overpair. However, hero still has good equity even with gutshot card dead. Hero continues.
6th Street: Hero semi picks up with pair, but is still behind if hands are face up. Hero bets again with good equity. Hero has 3 low showing and is betting.

Analysis:
3rd Street: Standard. Hero goes set mining. If hero had 3 low cards, hero would need at least a 2 suit to continue.
4th Street: Standard. Hero semi-picked up and could actually have donked out. But, hero rarely has a 4 flush given lack of reraise on 3rd street.
5th Street: Both players brick, but hero semi-picks up on board. Unfortunately, hero's logic does not pan out so well. Hero more likely has a 4-flush and 4 low than a made flush.
6th Street: Hero bets with likely best hand as villain has little chance to scoop with 52B8 board. When raised, hero slows down. Vil3 could be freerolling.

Analysis:
3rd Street: Standard. This is a relative monster (76 rainbow).
4th Street: This could have been a mistake betting. While hero does have a made badugi, hero does not necessarily have best low draw with 4th street brick.
5th Street: This could actually be a check back. What worse hands can Vil3 call? This might have been a better spot to check back.
6th Street: Hero went into check/call mode. As is proper in all split pot games, Vil3 was raising because of freeroll potential. Hero was also
Was hero board locked? It's hard to say. It's unlikely.

Over the next 2-3 levels, Vil5 was down to less than 1 big bet, but managed to double/double/quadruple/double (order may be different like double/quadruple/double/double) to get to a somewhat healthy stack.

Vil3 loses a bunch of chips after winning the pot.
Vil3 and Vil5 eventually talk about and agree to a bubble deal.

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. This could actually be a 3 bet against a wide opening villain range.
Flop: Hero calls with two pair and 2nd nut low. This is pretty standard.
Turn: A check could be a mistake here. Villain was aggressive, but does that really factor into this hand? Hero's low is still likely best, but hero could be in a 2nd/2nd (2nd best high/2nd best low) spot. Hero decides to miss a value bet. Although A25 is possible, many A2s were counterfeited. A donk bet/fold might be best.
River: At the time, Hero thought villain was aggressive and would bet the river. Thus, Hero could check/raise. Hero should have bet for value instead. Villains may call with 75xx, trips, or worse high hands.

Hero: shows hand for high and low.
Vil4: eliminated

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. A cap is not the best play unless it is to simply get villain "all in" (which is not necesarily the right play).
Flop: Although hero basically missed this flop, pot is huge and there is a chance to burst the bubble. Hero calls.
Turn: Standard check. Hero may have best low and may not get value from anything less than a wheel. Hero believes that tournament dynamics of eliminating a player also lean towards a check.
River: Normally, players check it down when one player is all in at the bubble. But, is it the right play here?
Hero thought about value betting river with nuts. But, Hero wanted to ensure Vil5 could be eliminated.
But, would Vil4 fold a bad low?
In hindsight, this is an easy value bet, even with tournament considerations. Hero has nut high and 2nd best low.
If Vil5 has a wheel (A3xxx), Vil5 would not be eliminated.

Dynamics in Super Stud Hi/Low:

Although this occurred somewhat in 5 handed/6 handed play, it became more defined in 4 handed play.
A dynamic was built between Vil5 and Hero. Over a series of hands, it was a constant Hero brings in, Vil6 completes, hero calls (defending bring in) with low cards, reraises strong hands, and folds weak hands.

Hero even noted it verbally as the hands continued.

After talking it over with another player after the tournament, hero agrees that Vil6 did not seem to adjust to the super stud variant. Vil6 was overvaluing high only hands and did not realize lows are stronger in super stud hi/low.

Likely Scenario:    Vil6: (Xx Yx) 7x 4x Qx 7? (5?)
Alternate Scenario: Vil6: (Xx Xx) 7x 4x 7x Q? (5?)
where Xx = 9x/Tx/Jx and Yx = 2x/3x/5x/6x

Analysis:
3rd Street: Standard. Hero decides to set mine. Vil6 had been stealing often with almomst any door card.
4th Street: Standard. Hero has 3 low against a maniac with wide stealing range.
5th Street: Hero checks indicating a non-scooping pair + 4 low hand or possibly defended with a brick. Since villain is very aggressive, this check/raise will likely succeed.
Alternate 5th Street: If both Vil6 and hero paired, a raise looks suspicious to Vil6.

Regardless of Villain 6's board - Thankfully, Vil6 calls and is in trouble for tournament life.

(likely rounding up/down for cents)
3744
2656
2560

Although not asked at the time, perhaps hero should have looked at the chip chop payouts.
Chip Chop:
Player Stacks Results
Vil1: 64500 2365.10
Vil3: 73500 2439.31
Hero: 283000 4166.64
Total: 421000 (there was a chip race which added an extra 1000 chip.)

Once payouts were shown and calculated with ICM, 3 proposed 200€ off the top for 2nd and 3rd. This was more than 2nd place payout.

Hero: I'll give 200€ for 2nd and 3rd. Also, is it ok if I have the trophy and just call it a night?
Vil1: That's fine. I'll take the deal. You can have the trophy. You deserve it.
Hero: I also have a preference for getting rest to play the Sextuple Omaha the next day (the tournament hero really wanted to play). I would like to try to get some rest.
Vil3 thought for a little bit, then countered for 250€.
Hero thought for a little more, countered with 230€, and the deal was agreed.

The payout sheet was amended to the new payouts.

Agreed Upon ICM deal with 3 left and 1st place giving 230€ each to 2nd and 3rd place.
1st - 3284
2nd - 2886
3rd - 2790

Hero admitted to Vil1 that it was a very generous deal and it was not a hustle.
Vil1 agreed that Hero was not hustling. Vil1 was happy to have deal considering he was a bubble candidate and was short stacked when 3 handed.

Deal Analysis:
Perhaps hero was not thinking about a deal at all. Hero did not really look at all factors (specifically how short players were).
To Vil3's credit, he did not want to even start 3 handed play without discussing a deal (so no new dynamics would have been established).
At the time, the 3 remaining players did not really play a lot of hands against each other (only Vil3 and hero in the razzdugi hand where hero scooped).

In hindsight, was this because hero was "checking down" when bubble burst?
Did Vil3 really understand table dynamics?
Did Vil3 understand ICM well and knew this was best chance?
Or was Vil3 just wanting to lock up as much money as possible?

To be honest, hero's deal was very generous. Villains had < 4 BB (L < 1 for stud). Could hero have won in 3 way and HU play to finish the tournament?

After taking a break to try to get pay outs squared away, hero went back for winner's photo(s).
3 photo poses were taken (although multiple attempts were made, especially for number 3).
1. trophy in middle
2. trophy in LH and winning hand in RH
3. card toss in air (7 cards since last hand was super stud 8 instead of usual 2 or 4 since hero's last hand was in a stud variant). Photographer mentioned there was a really good toss for the first one, but it did not get photographed properly :( Multiple other attempts were not as good.

They set up some nice chip stacks with dealer's buttons and all in buttons and had lighting/illumination.
Hero also was able to keep a small ring with all the "plaques" indicating the choice of different games.

Overall Analysis:
Hero is thrilled to have first live tournament win and first poker trophy, even if it was "declared by chip count".
There's always the next goal: win live tournament outright.

A couple of the players at some of the previous tables were only competent in 4LO8. The final table seemed to have some aggressive players, but many did not seem to adjust to proper super stud hi/low strategy. Some players did not seem well versed in badeucy/badacey. Crazy Pineapple was a tentative game for hero, as the rest of the games were played throughout the other EPT Malta tournaments.
