Hero and Vil2 chop pot

Analysis:
3rd Street: Standard with 3 low cards and likely wide villain open complete range
4th Street: Hero is calling with some chance of backing into 2 pair for high.
5th Street: Hero might actually be able to fold, but Vil2's wide opening range means continuing.
6th Street: Same as 5th, but honestly is actually a fold.
7th Street: Hero should raise with lock low, so it was leak to not raise.

Vil3: shows Kx Qx 5x 4x
Hero: scoops

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard with A3 + wheel.
Flop: Standard. Hero has decent equity to bet/call and fold to not low/flush turns.
Turn: Could this be a spot to make a thin check/raise? Would a naked Qxxx call on a flush board? Hero has likely best flush, and decides to check/call. (Hero would check/raise/fold if three bet or raised on river).
River: This may have been a missed value bet.

Analysis:

Flop: Standard with likely best hand and nut flush blocker.
Turn: Leak to not bet the turn when hero has NFD blocker.
River: Hero gets value bet with great 2 way hand. Hero is bet/folding as A4/46 would likely check/raise.

4th Street: This was probably a missed bet by hero. Hero can get value from the high hand (Vil3) or eliminate Vil3 to get more value.

Hero's stack: 27k

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Standard. Hero does not have best low draw, but hero has decent equity against BB defend ranges.
Turn: Same as flop, but hero picks up more equity. Hero would likely bet/call raise, and fold all non-low rivers.
River: There was not much value in betting since bricked low draws (majority of range) folds. Maybe there is thin value from the QQxx + low draw parts of range.

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero has strong A2 suited hand.
Flop: Standard. Hero has 2 way hand in HU pot.
Turn: Hero could consider checking back turn to pot control. There may not be much value in betting since few worse hands are calling.
River: Hero may be able to get a worse top 2 pair hand/bad low call or push out stronger 1 way hands. This is a borderline value bet.

Vil2: shows Ax Qx 5x Xx (unsure of hand)
Vil4: shows Ax 4x Xx Xx

Board: Kx Kx Lx Lx Bx
Hero does not remember result, but hero likely scoops both opponents.

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero is at an ugly spot. Two questions came to mind:
With 7 big bets, is hero "playing for the win" or trying to get ITM? If hero loses hand, hero has ~22k (2.75 big bets).
It was tough, because hero has an Ace blocker, which means neither of the opponents likely has AAxx.
Will either opponent fold (specifically UTG)?
Using logic (and not results oriented thinking), the right play was to likely jam the pot. Not necessarily because of goal (getting ITM), but because of hero's blocker value to meaning hero is likely in a great spot to bust an opponent.
Hero decides to "sneak into the money" rather than risk tournament life in this spot.

Vil3: shows hand (hero did not write it down)

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. 3 wheel cards with a chance to steal blinds or play HU is a good play. Hero has a decent chance of chopping blinds and staying in tournament. An Ace-wheel hand would be better, but this is still a spot to enter in the pot.

---------------
Hero out in 9/75.

$125 -> $169

Overall Thoughts:
The field seemed very soft, with many new players. There were some competent mixed game players in the field.
This was the smallest buyin that Hero played, and it showed.
Hero was also rusty in LO8 and Stud8, but luckily it was not too horrible to overcome the rust.

Hero is unhappy with the AKK5 hand near the bubble with hero's middling stack. If hero did not have an A, it is much closer. But, retrospective out of the situation should mean that hero should have jammed the pot and lived with bubbling.

---------------
This tournament was part of the Run It Up (RIU) festival with other events (both poker and non-poker) to keep people interested. There was a game night with board games and card games (like Magic). Many players were wearing RIU gear. The last player in each side event wearing RIU gear won a free main event seat ($600 value).
There were also seminars led by Jason Somerville which were very informative (there was a pause during level 6 for about an hour to have a Q&A to talk about hand histories (especially mixed game HHs). It was very informative, and Jason was also very welcoming to hero and other players.

Hero still somewhat regrets not at least firing a bullet in the 8 game mix.

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Suited ace IP is ok even if player is trying to isolate the field. Stacks are deep enough to call.
Flop: Standard. Hero has air.

Level 3 - Blinds: 75/150
9 handed (seat 8 is empty)

Read: Vil7 had high VPIP and was aggressive on flop (~40% VPIP over ~20 hands)

Hero dealt in SB: Kx Qx Qx 3x

Preflop:

Vil6: folds

(2 players - 1800 in pot)
Turn: Ks 9s 3s 8x
Hero: checks
Vil7: bets pot (1800)
Hero: tanks, then folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Somewhat loose, but ok to play naked QQxx.
Flop: It's a somewhat tough spot. Vil1 was aggressive in 2 rotations. Hero was planning to call multiple streets with a bluff catcher since villain appeared to be aggressive. This is probably a leak.
Turn: Hero folded, giving up on read and did not trust. This was likely call down 2 streets, but not a triple barrel. Villain's range could be some semi-bluff hands (like sets), but most would not bet flop and turn. Those hands may semi-bluff flop or "bet to see where they're at", but that's about it.

Table is now 9 handed.

River: Jx Kd 5d Ax Jx
Vil3: checks
Hero: bets 2100
Vil3: thinks for a long time, then calls

Hero: shows hand
Vil3: mucks

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero has relatively weak AAxx and deep stacks. Since hero is unable to put a majority of stack in preflop, there is little value in raising and folding most flops. Hero is set mining.
Flop: Standard. Hero has air and little fold equity on this board.
Turn: Standard. In 5 way pot, Vil3 could have made a nut hand, but hero planned to value bet board pairing cards, and bluff flush completing cards.
River: Standard. Hero would bet fairly large with entire turn continuing range (bricked flush draw/combo draws where made hand was worse than aces up, boats, etc...) when checked to on the river. Hero would raise a Vil3's bet too.

(2 players - 4800 in pot)
River: Qx Jx Tx Ax 8x
Vil2: checks
Hero: checks

Hero did not write down Vil2's hand, but it likely won at showdown.

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Rundown on the button is middle-top of range.
Flop: This is a marginal c-bet. Few worse hands are calling, and many straights will call down. Hero will fold out many weaker hands (one pair which could improve to worse 2 pair).
Turn: Standard. Villain's range contains many broadway straights or aces up. Hero tries to get showdown cheaply.
River: Standard. Hero could bet as a bluff more often, as hero does not beat many 2 pair hands. But, betting line would not make sense if hero was trying to represent a straight. Hero would need to barrel all 3 streets.

Vil1: folds

Vil3: shows Kx Td 7d 3x
Hero: mucks
Hero's stack: 5800

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Strong double suited aces = hero tries to isolate and play HU. Unfortunately, in a live MTT, an isolation raise can also strongly indicate AAxx since hero has not played large number of hands.
Flop: Standard. Hero has air.
Turn: Standard. Hero has air.
River: This could actually be a fold. It is very likely an unbalanced "live play" small river value bet to get AAxx/KKxx to call with good 2 pair.

Vil2: checks

Hero: shows 2 pair
Vil2: mucks

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero does not have strong hand and prefers to see flop.
Flop: Standard. Hero has decent equity (bottom 2 pair, nut flush draw). Hero bets for value/equity edge and gets called.
Turn: Standard. Same as flop, but it begins to question what is Vil2's calling range? Is it naked top pair?
River: Hero does not see much value in trying to bet 3 streets. Hero is in check/call mode. Hero gets to showdown and wins the hand.

Analysis:
Preflop: This was a decent enough hand to raise even in BB, but hero decides that the stacks are shallow enough to play a smaller pot OOP.
Flop: Standard. In MW pot, hero expects to see a flush often. It looks like Vil8's bet was a live "feeler" bet, even though it's a static board.

Analysis:
Preflop: Perhaps this is a better spot to check/jam or jam most flops instead of trying to jam with likely AAxx. Vil3 looked competent and was observing hero's play, so this could easily be a spew. If hero had a single/double suited 1 gapper, this might be a much better play than "turning hero's hand face up"

Flop: Standard. Hero has overpair and 2nd nut flush draw.
Turn: Standard. Hero tries to avoid bloating pot too much and forcing an all in situation.

Vil4 (SB, 120k): calls

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero has KKxx and within a normal CO opening range. (Button did not seem to be overly loose).
Flop: Standard. Hero has air.

---------------
Hero dealt in UTG+1: Qx Jx Tx 8x (hero is unsure of hand, likely single/double suited rundown or 1 gapper)

Preflop:
Vil1 (UTG): raises to 8000
Hero (UTG+1): reraises to 26000
Vil1: thinks for a long time, then shows hero KKxx before folding.

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero's appearance of being competent means that hero can generate fold equity preflop.

---------------

(2 players - 19600 in pot)
Flop: Ad 3c 4h
Vil1: bets 15900 (all in)
Hero: thinks for a long time about math, then folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: It is actually a close spot. Hero needs about 31% equity. Hero is only getting about 28.27% equity if against a range of AAxx, but what if there is A3

So, it depends on how much air villain has, and how wide Vil1's opening range is. Would he jam Axxx?

Hero out in 12/73. 8 paid.

Overall Thoughts:
Hero made some small mistakes, especially with shorter stacks and turning hero's hand "face up" as AAxx in shorter situations. Hero needs to incorporate adding some call preflop/jam flop into repertoire.
The field seemed to be a mix of NLHE circuit grinders (who may have questionable PLO skills).

It was disappointing to see so few entries though compared to the 8 game mix that was running in Reno at noon on same day (which got ~130+ entries)

Turn: This is not the worst card for hero, but hero decides to bet turn/check river if blank river. Hero likely has more fold equity, although a Kxxx is likely calling 1 street.

(2 players - 57200 in pot, 1 all in)
Board: Tc Ad 7d Qh 5d

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero made mistake taking too long to figure out his stack and raise size. Hero needs to get better at remembering exact amount prior to cards being dealt so that amount of time to act is consistent.
Flop: Hero could bet/call (which may have been better), but there is a slightly better chance that villain will cbet on A high board, even in a 4 way pot. Results are the same.
Hero was flipping coins as a very slight favorite.

One villain mentioned that "Hero might have AAxx", but hero should have never been in that situation by simply staying consistent with "amount of time to act between hands".

Hero ran into some problems trying to determine how best to convert enough (but not too much) USD to CAD.
The casino's exchange rate was $1 USD -> $1.20 CAD. The current rate was $1 USD -> $1.31, so the rake was not awful. Hero was able to use Charles Schwab ATM card to withdraw money successfully.

Additionally, hero found out later on that credit card "MTT tournament purchases" are not treated as a cash advance at this area. Hero wasted some equity (and getting receipts) for the tournaments.

Vil6 (CO): raises to 8500
Vil7 (But): folds

Analysis:
Preflop: This is awkward spot for hero. Hero does not have a pair and is in a condrum. If hero is donk bet into (likely), hero needs to think about ranges before calling. Is Vil2 betting any flop? Some flops?
Flop: This is a fold, even if Vil2 has complete air on bluff. Hero has no equity even unless it is Txxx or worse.

Board:

Hero says that he had blockers which was why that was a call at the time.

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero originally thought of isolating limper, but hero decides to call.
Hero does not necessarily think call/call is best play, even if hero is only player left to act.
While hero does block AAxx, KKxx, should hero call with no fold equity, and just calling because of dead money/pot odds for MTT life?
On the positive side, hero is only up against 1 player versus a MW situation.

---------------
Hero out in 34/142.
Overall Thoughts:

Hero was not playing super well, especially in bust out hand. There were other spots where plays and hero's play actions at the table were not consistent. This caused some leaks.

It was pretty great to see so many reentries. Reentries are allowed through dinner (level 13, starting stack of 20000 at 2000/4000 blinds).

8 handed
Hero dealt in UTG: Kh Qx Jd Tc (hero is not exactly sure of hand, but likely a good rundown)

Preflop:
Hero (UTG): raises to 1800
(folds to Vil4)
Vil4 (But): calls
Vil6 (BB): calls

(3 players - 5800 in pot)
Flop: 7s 4c 4h

Vil6: calls

Vil6: checks
Hero: checks

(2 players - 12800 in pot)
Flop: 7s 4c 4h Kd Ah
Vil6: bets 6000
Hero: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero has strong multiway hand and builds pot.
Flop: Hero could bet/fold a smaller amount (say 2500-3100), so this was a slight mistake. Both villains seemed straightforward, so a smaller bet size should have happened. Vil6's calling range is trips/boat heavy (with small chance of a straight or wrap).
Turn: Hero is way behind, but picks up equity against naked straight draw. Hero tries to cheaply get to showdown.
River: Vil6's leading range has some bluffs, but the majority are value hands. Hero folds.

---------------
Hero dealt in SB: Ah Tx 9x 8h

Preflop:
Vil2 (UTG+1): calls
Vil5 (CO): calls

(4 players - 3200 in pot)
River: Jc 9c 6d 2d Jh
(all players check)

Hero: wins at showdown as other players muck.

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero has suited ace and some connected cards. This is likely a call/call.
Flop: On drawy board, hero does not have great equity. Hero decides to keep pot small, likely folding to any bet.
Turn: Same as flop.
River: Hero can beat some bluffs. There is little value in betting in this spot as few worse hands are calling. Hero may consider bluff catching depending on player and bet size.

Analysis:

Vil3: shows Ah Qh Xx Xx (royal flush)
Vil8: says they had lower flush, and mucks hand.

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Standard. Hero. It is interesting to see how villain will play nutted hand in the future.

The live reporter showed up 1 minute later, and Vil3 asked if he can get the royal jackpot, even for a tournament.

Hero dealt in BB: Jx 8h 8x 4h

Preflop:

Turn: Tx Ks 9c 9s

River: Tx Ks 9c 9s Ax
Vil6: checks
Hero: bets 3800
Vil6: Says "do you have a boat, flush, or straight?", then folds.
Vil6: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero has suited ace in likely multiway pot.
Flop: Standard. Hero does not have any equity.
Turn: Hero's bet size seems better. (Hero does not remember if this was at 400/800 or 600/1200 blinds). Hero can bet smaller (1/3 pot) because both players seemed to play fit/fold.
River: Bet size may be slightly too big. A smaller bet would be more ideal (perhaps 3k). Hero still tends to bet a little bit larger in polarized range spots than is necessary against nits and/or straight forward players.

---------------
Hero's stack at Level 9 break (Blinds: 800/1600): 29200

---------------
Hero finds out that final table is 10 handed. Unfortunately, that makes the tournament run longer :(

---------------
Level 9 - Blinds: 800/1600
5 handed
Hero dealt in BB: Qh Tx 8h 8x

Preflop:
Vil8 (UTG, ~35k): calls
Vil3 (CO): calls
Vil5 (But): calls
Vil6 (SB): calls
Hero (But): checks

(3 players - 8000 in pot)
Flop: Qd 8d 3x
Hero: bets 3500
Vil8: raises to 10k
(other players fold)
Hero: thinks for a long time, trying to remember villain's play, but then says "I'll try to find better spot" and folds.

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Standard flop bet. Hero then assigns range of (sets, some draws). The field seemed relatively soft too.

Hero made 1 mistake: Vil8's bet sizes were telling of hand strength. Unfortunately, hero forgot that fact when weighing ranges.
Was this a spot that fold is better?

Final Table was at the "feature table" with a Seminole Poker felt and dealer style leather chairs. It was roped off in the center of the event center.

Level 11 - Blinds: 1500/3000
Hero's stack: 13.5k

Hero dealt in BB: Ah Ax Th ?h (at least single suited aces)

Preflop:
Vil6 (UTG): raises to 7000
(folds to hero)
Hero (But): thinks for a little bit, then calls

(3 players - 15500 in pot)
Flop: Tx 6x 4x (rainbow)

Vil6: Shows Jx Jx Tx Xx (rainbow)

(2 players - 28500 in pot, 1 all in)
Board: Tx 6x 4x Ax 9x

Hero doubles up to 28.5k

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero has suited ace in likely multiway pot.
Flop: Hero could reraise if it was a single bet/call, but hero decides to avoid huge variance with wheel wrap and little fold equity if hero raises.

Discussion from Vil6:
Vil6 was actually more worried about flat call than a reraise preflop. Vil6 suspected hero had AAxx based on thinking for a little bit before acting.

---------------
Hero dealt in Button: Kx Kh 7x 5x

Preflop:
Vil1: calls

Hero: raises to 12500

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero isolates and looks to get it on most flops. Vil1 may have realized that (with speculative hand) and decided to fold.

(3 players - 15000 in pot)
Flop: Ax Jx 2h Jh Ax
Hero: thinks for a bit, then checks
Vil6: checks

Hero: shows hand
Vil6: mucks

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero would strongly consider limp/reraising, or limp/calling and jamming most flops.
Flop: Hero will not get worse hand to call. Hero has great equity, but decides to let villain bet/hero raise line.
Turn: Hero goes for value and may get called by KKxx, QQxx, etc... Hero also sets up for possible river shove.
River: Hero will not get value by betting. Hero can only hope villain bets with worse hand and/or bluff.

---------------
Level 12 - Blinds: 2000/4000
Hero dealt in But: Qc 9x 8x 7c

Preflop:

(3 players - 27000 in pot)
Flop: Qx Tc 3h
Vil1: checks
Vil2: bets 15000
Hero: folds
Vil1: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero has semi-connected hand.
Flop: Ugly spot for Hero. Hero did not think about stack sizes well enough before playing hand. Although, there is little that can be done when 3rd player calls. The pot is too big, and hero is forced into a "tournament life decision".
It was ok if hero did not have 3rd player in pot, but it should have been a thought given situation.

TBH, Hero's hand has enough equity for tournament life. Hero's equity is quite good event against top and bottom pair. ICM pressures are intense though given 3 other stacks were also short.

It's close. Hero decides to fold and pick better spot.

River: Js 3s 4s 6s As
Vil2: bets 4000
Hero: thinks for a bit, then calls

Vil2: shows Ax Jx Tx 4x
Hero: shows flush and wins hand.

Hero's stack: 39400

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard. Hero can keep stack depth and has no need to apply pressure.
Flop: Great flop for hero. Hero is likely going to get value the whole way. Hero checks to let villain bluff at pot.
Turn: Hero starts getting value. Hero would likely start value betting on turn or river (probably river only).
River: Is there value in raising? Hero is not sure. Hero would likely only get called by the nuts (K high flush). The ace nut flush is a good card (as well as a 5th flush card on a now monotone board), because it eliminates flush possibilities and easily lets villain bluff a worse hand.

---------------
As the tournament progresses, seats 7 and 8 were getting in ugly spots and ugly verbal talk was occurring.
She lost a big pot.
Female is tilting. It could get ugly. She is also shortest stack now.

Her image and table demeanor were actually quite mean. Hero is not sure if it's her style, but seat 7 was making fun of her too.
She eventually becomes shortest stack, and busts in 5th.

Afterwards, people were saying she was banned at poker room Fort Myers (Bonita Springs) dog track because she was berating and cussing out other players.

Vil8 busts just as the break started at the end of level 12.

While on break, the 4 other players discussed a deal. (Hero was not present at the time.)
They asked hero if $75 from each player should go to bubble person. Hero said "ok", but hero was concerned that there was not change with player at time.
Hero normally does not initiate deals, but will usually accept if all other players accepted.
Thus, bubble received $50 profit (($75 * 4) - $250 entry)

Hero out in 4th place of 32 entries (including re-entries).

---------------
Overall Thoughts:
Hero was very fortunate to get a min cash.

Hero was running late due to not feeling well. Fortunately, hero was feeling better as the tournament progressed. It was also easier to basically cash by being 4th/20-22 remaining entries (by the time hero registered).

Hero was a short stack for the entire final table (never getting above ~12BBs), but a couple key double ups and watching other players bust helped out hero. Hero did a good job as a short stack ninja.

Many villains seemed inexperienced at PLO MTTs (especially the short stacks). They seemed to be looser and check/folding. There were a few competent players in the soft field.
