WSOP-Europe 550 PLO at Spielbank Berlin

550 PLO MTT at Spielbank Berlin for WSOP Europe.
5000 starting chips at 25/50 blinds and 30 min. levels. One re-entry is allowed.

---------------
First Table Reads:
1 young, middle aged guy
2 old, balding guy
3 middle aged Asian
4 empty, eventually unknown male sits down
5 guy with cap
6 hero
7 older guy playing on cell phone
8 mid aged guy - early on - likely NLHE player ...also donked turn to villain who checked flop

---------------
Hero late registered in level 2.

WSOP_TD assigned my seat and said "It's good to see a familiar face." There were few Americans, although dealer "Big Andy" was around too (originally met in NOLA and mentioned he played a lot of LHE). He mentioned going to Prague.

---------------
Level 2 - Blinds: 50/100
Hero had folded the first rotation or 2 before playing this hand.

Preflop:
Hero dealt UTG: Ah 9h 8x 2x

Hero: raises to 250
Vil8: calls
Vil3 (SB): calls
Vil4 (BB): calls

(4 players - 1000 in pot)
Flop: 9c 2c 4d
(all players check)

(4 players - 1000 in pot)
Turn: 9c 2c 4d Jh
Vil3: bets ~600?
Vil4: raises to ~2200
(other players fold)
Vil3: calls

(2 players - ~5400 in pot)
River: 9c 2c 4d Jh 6d
Vil3: checks
Vil4: bets all in
Vil3: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: This is a bit of a loose raise. A limp may have been prudent as well as a fold.
Flop: This might have been a good spot to donk bet. The board is a bit innocuous with low cards and hero might get worser hands to call multiway. This is likely a bet/fold spot.
Turn: With action in front of hero, hero decides to fold.

---------------
Hero saw Ax Ah (h 2x > As Ax Tc 9x on 5x 6h 7x 2h Qh to freeroll someone out of tournament.

---------------
Read: Vil3 had been pretty active in the first couple rotations.

Hero dealt in BB: Ah Ax Tx 7x

Preflop:
(folds to Vil3)
Vil3 (CO): raises to 250
Vil5 (SB): calls
Hero (BB): calls

(3 players - 850 in pot)
Flop: Qx Kx Th
Vil5: checks
Hero: checks
Vil3: bets 850
Vil5: folds
Hero: folds

Preflop: This was a spot to consider a squeeze, but stacks are actually too deep. A raise would have been to 950 and would have made pot either 2400 (HU) or 3200 (3 way) with ~about 4.2k effective stacks.
Flop: Hero could have done a nut straight blocker raise. Since hero holds two aces, hero can represent the "nuts" in standard PLO action. Hero decides to fold because broadway boards would hit a looser player's range too well and they may not fold.

---------------
Hero's stack: 4500

Hero dealt in SB: Ks Kh Ts 3h

Preflop:
Vil8 (UTG): raises to 250
Vil2: calls
Vil3: calls
Vil4: calls
Hero (SB): calls
Vil7 (BB): calls

(6 players - 1500 in pot)
Flop: 9s Jh 5d
Hero: checks
Vil7: checks
Vil8: bets ~1000
Vil4: calls
Vil7: calls

Turn: 9s Jh 5d 7s
(not sure of action)

Preflop: This could be a spot to squeeze. KKxx rates well with one player left to act and a bunch of players calling.
Flop: Hero could peel this flop with gutshot + both backdoor 2nd nut flush draws and others calling. But, hero decides to save chips for later.

---------------
Preflop:
Hero dealt in SB: As Js Tx Tx

Vil8 (UTG): raises to 300
Vil5 (But): calls
Hero (SB): calls
Vil7 (BB): calls

(3 players - 900 in pot)
Flop: Qd 5d 4c
all players check

Turn: Qd 5d 4c 8h 4d
all players check

River: Qd 5d 4c 8h 4d
Hero: checks
Vil7: checks
Vil5: bets 700
Hero: folds
Vil7: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Not much fold equity on a wet board. Hero tries to get to showdown.
Turn: Not much fold equity on a wet board. Hero tries to get to showdown.
River: This is a marginal spot to bluff catch. Hero doesn't even have top 2 pair. Hero folds.

---------------
Level 3 - Blinds: 75/150
Hero's stack: ~4000

Hero dealt in CO?: Qd Td 9x 7x

Preflop:
(folds to Vil3?)
Vil3?(UTG, ~3000): raises to 350?
Vil5 (MP, ~3500): calls
Hero (CO?, ~4000): calls
(other players fold)

(3 players - 1275? in pot)
Flop: 8x 2x 5d 7d Qh
(all players check)

(3 players - 1275? in pot)
Turn: 8x 2x 5d 7d Qh
Vil3: bets 900?
Vil5: raises to 3000
Hero: reraises to 3800
Vil3: calls (all in for less)
Vil5: calls (all in for less)

Vil3: 4x 4d 9d Qx
Vil5: 6x 5x 4x 3x (no flush draw)

(3 players - ~7875 in pot - 2 all in)
River: 8x 2x 5d 7d Qh
Vil5 nearly triples up, Vil3 is out. Hero is crippled.

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: standard
Turn: This is a spew. Hero may have been tilting by not getting it in earlier.
Normally, hero folds. But, Hero's analysis swayed a jam and was completely wrong. Hero's outs are not clean (and does not have a large amount of equity) and there was no fold equity either.
Hero's best case scenario is up against nut/2nd nut straight only. The initial bet could have been a semi-bluff with flush draw and a wrap or straight.

Vil3 was likely betting with blockers and flush draw as backup, or hero miswrote hand (likely blockers though).

PPT simulation:

Hero's stack: 250 chips

---------------
Hero dealt in HJ: Qc Tx 8c 5x

Preflop:
(folds to hero)
Hero: raises to 250 (all in)
(folds to BB)
Vil8?: calls

Vil8?: shows Ax 9c 5c 3x

Board: 2x 9x 6x Jc 3c
Hero out of tournament on first bullet.

---------------
After busting first bullet, an African American lady said "I sounded familiar" and we realized that she probably dealt to me while at Best Bet Jacksonville. Small world.
She min-cashed the OktoberFest and was going to fire a barrel in the PLO.

Hero re-entered just before end of level 4. Hero got new seat after getting a word of encouragement from WSOP_TD.

---------------
Second Bullet - First Table Reads:
1 Arabian - young guy
2 mid aged guy w/ cap
3 younger male, eventually Mo (high stakes MTT player
4 hero
5 older grey haired guy with glasses
6 young guy with beard and brown hair (German speaker)
7 mid aged guy - eventually Dylan (American) - level 7 - younger guy with SHRT logo
8 guy w/ sunglasses and cap

---------------
Level 4: hero folded 3 hands before break
Level 5: hero's stack: 4700 @ 150/300

Hero dealt on button: Ax Kc Ks 6c

Preflop:
Vil8 (UTG): raises to 775
Hero (But): calls
Vil6 (BB): calls

(3 players - 2475 in pot)
Flop: 2x 3d 5x
(all players check)

(3 players - 2475 in pot)
Turn: 2x 3d 5x 4d
Vil6: checks
Vil8: checks
Hero: bets 1100
Vil6: folds
Vil8: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero could 3 bet, but hero decides to use positional advantage.
Flop: Vil6 could check raise here, so hero decides to see turn action.
Turn: Once both villains check and the card is somewhat matches the board, hero bets as a pure bluff with one nut blocker.

Hero's stack: 6400

---------------
Hero saw 2 people bust on same hand. It was a bit of a cooler.

Preflop:
(other players fold)
Vil7? (EP, ~5k): raises to 700?
(other players fold)
Vil3? (But, 6k): calls
Vil5? (SB, 1300): raises all in to 1300
(other players fold)
Vil7?: calls
Vil3?: calls

(3 players - 1 all in - 4200 in pot)
Board: Ks Js Jx 3d 7h
Vil7: bets all in (~4000)
Vil3: calls

Vil3: shows Ks Kh Qx 6x
Vil7: shows Kx Jx 9x 7x
Vil5: shows Ac Ax Tc 9c

---------------
Hero dealt in BB: Ah Js Th 2s

(2 players - in pot)
Flop: Ax Js 4x
Hero: checks
Vil8: bets 1000
Hero: calls

(2 players - in pot)
Turn: Ax Js 4x Ks
Hero: checks
Vil8: bets 1000
Hero: calls

(2 players - in pot)
River: Ax Js 4x Ks 3h
Hero: checks
Vil8: checks

Vil8: shows Ax As Js Xx
Hero: mucks

Analysis:
Preflop: This is a decent hand to defend to a raise.
Flop: Hero has top 2 pair but decides to keep pot small OOP.
Turn: Hero picks up a flush draw and does the same thing. There easily could be merit to raising, but hero may not get many worse hands to call and is just increasing variance.
River: If facing bet, this would be a tough spot to call 2 streets with top/3rd pair to a weakish triple barrel. Examining timing and tells would be needed to determine call. Luckily, villain does not bet and hero saves chips.

---------------
Hero dealt in MP: 9x 8c 6c 4x

Preflop:
(5 total players limp including hero, Vil4, and Vil8)
Vil4: calls
Vil8: calls
Vil?: calls
Hero: calls
Vil? (BB): checks

(5 players - 1500? in pot)
Flop: Tx 5c 3c
Vil4: checks
Vil8: checks
Vil?: bets
Hero: folds
other players fold

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Although hero has a weak OESD and a low flush draw, hero decides to fold and lessen variance in MW pot. There is definitely merit in calling and peeling, but hero is in MW pot where likely only OESD is good.

---------------
Hero's stack: ~10k

Hero dealt in UTG+2: Qx Tc 9c 7x
Preflop:
(7 players total limp including hero, but hero does not know which player folded.)

(7 players - 2100 in pot)
Flop: 7x 8h 6c Kh Qx
Vil3: bets pot (2100)
Hero: calls
Vil8: calls

(3 players - 8400 in pot)
Turn: 7x 8h 6c Kh Qx
Vil3: bets 1100 (all in)
Hero: raises all in
Vil8: says he folded J9xx

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Standard flat call. Hero can wait for a safe/blank turn card (non-straight filling card) and let villains bet worse hands.
Turn: Perhaps this is a better spot to just wait until the river since backdoor flush draws are less of a concern in a MW pot.

---------------
Hero dealt in BB: Qh Th 9x 2x

Preflop:
(folds to Vil3)
Vil3 (SB): calls
Hero (BB): checks

(2 players - 600 in pot)
Flop: Tx 5s 7s
Vil3: checks
Hero: bets 500
Vil3: calls

(2 players - 1600 in pot)
Turn: Tx 5s 7s 8c
Vil3: checks
Hero: checks

(2 players - 1600 in pot)
River: Tx 5s 7s 8c Jx
Vil3: checks
Hero: bets 1400
Vil3: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Hero bets top pair to price out flush/straight draws. Hero would fold to check/raise.
Turn: Hero sees some nut straights/wraps complete and checks behind.
River: When villain does not bet river, hero tries to make line look bluffy by betting large on river. This may have been a better spot to look at villain's range as weak and bet 2/3-3/4 pot instead.

---------------
Hero dealt in button: Qh Th 8x 7x

Preflop:
Vil7 (UTG, ~5k): limps
Vil8 (UTG+1, ~10k): raises to 2200
(all other players fold including limper)

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero made tight fold in position. Vil8 had ~10k in front, so this was a bit of a deviation from standard play.

---------------
Hero dealt in UTG+2: Ax Ah Qh 7x

Preflop:
(folds to hero)
Hero: raises
(other players fold)

Read: Hero notices that isolation plays seem to work and players fold.

---------------
Hero dealt in SB+2: Ad Jd Tx 9x

Preflop:
Vil5 (UTG, ~6k): limps
Vil1 (HJ, ~6k): raises to 800
Hero (SB): calls

(3 players - 2700 in pot)
Flop: Jc Tc 5x (no flush draw for hero)
Hero: bets 1500
Vil3: folds
Vil1: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Hero decides to go with donk bet/call line instead of a more conventional check/call line due to shallow stacks. Hero is exerting fold equity since villains will have to make a choice for MTT life and is likely stacking off with any turn card.

Hero's stack: 17,500

---------------
Hero dealt in SB: Jx 9s 8s 6x

Preflop:
Vil7 (UTG, 6k): raises to 1300
Vil8 (UTG+1, 13.3k): calls
(folds to hero)
Hero (SB, 17k): calls
(other players fold)

(3 players - 4200 in pot)
Flop: Kx 8c 6c
Hero: checks
Vil7: bets 3700 (all in)
Vil8: folds

Vil7: shows Ax Kx 6x 3x

Board: Kx 8c 6c 3x 6x

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard play
Flop: This may have been better to donk bet rather than check/call. Hero at least has fold equity against short stack (and likely Vil8) since bet looks very strong with short stack all in.

Hero's stack: 12.5k

---------------
Hero limp/folded AJ85 Ax suited to short stack raise

---------------
Hero dealt in UTG+2: Qx 9x 8s 7s

Preflop:
(folds to hero)
Hero (UTG+2): raises to 900
(folds to Vil7 in But)
Vil7 (But): calls
Vil8 (BB): calls

(3 players - 2900 in pot)
Flop: As Ts 5x
Vil8: checks
Hero: checks
Vil7: bets 1700
Vil8: folds
Hero: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Hero could bet in this spot, but hero would likely have to 2 barrel with an ace high flop. Hero decides to check/fold instead.

---------------
Level 7 - Blinds: 300/600

Hero dealt in BB: Kx Qd Jd Tx

Preflop:
Vil5 (UTG): raises to 1500?
Vil1 (4.7k): calls
Vil3 (22k): calls
Hero (10k): calls

(4 players - 6000 in pot)
Flop: 9s 4d 6s
Hero check/folds to bet.

Analysis:
Preflop: This could be a spot to reraise and misrepresent hand, but hero decides to just play a flop OOP.
Flop: Standard check/fold.

------------------------------
Level 8 - Blinds: 400/800
Hero's stack: 11,300

Hero dealt in CO: Ah Qh 6x 2x

Preflop:
(folds to hero)
Hero (CO): raises to 1800
Vil7 (BB): calls

(2 players - 4000 in pot)
Flop: Qx Th 8h
Vil8: checks
Hero: bets 1500
Vil8: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Bet size seems decent in this spot to try to elicit action. Stacks are shallow enough that hero would get stack into middle anyway.

------------------------------
Level 9 - Player Reads:

1 old guy - bald with sunglasses (joined table at level 9)
2 old guy - glasses (from before)
3 Mo - online player
4 hero
5 younger guy
6 younger German guy
7 younger guy - America (SHRT logo)
8 old guy with earring - made loose call with Kh Jh Xx Xx in BB with raise, 1 call

------------------------------
Level 10 - Blinds: 500/1000

Hero's stack: 7400

Hero dealt in UTG+1: Ac Ks Qs 8x

Preflop:
(folds to hero)
Hero (UTG+1, 7400): raises to 2200
(other players fold)
Vil2 (BB): calls

(2 players - 4900 in pot)
Flop: 8x 8c 5c
Vil2: checks
Hero: bets 2500
Vil2: folds

Analysis:
Analysis: This is a good hand given hero's 7BB stack. Hero would reluctantly go all in on most flops.
Flop: Hero's range looks strong with raise in EP.

---------------
Hero's stack: 10,100

Hero dealt in SB: Kx Ks Js Tx

Preflop:
(folds to Vil2 in But)
Vil6 (EP): raises to 2500
(folds to hero)
Hero (SB): reraises to 8500
(folds to Vil8)
Vil6: thinks for a while and reraises all in
Hero: calls

Vil6: shows Qx Qc Jc 4x

Board: 8x 3x 3x 4x 3x

Analysis:
Preflop: This is a spot where hero decides KKxx against a loose (30+ VPIP) player's open is well ahead of villain's range to get all in. Hero is very fortunate to see villain's dominated QQxx hand.

Hero's stack: 20,600

---------------
Hero dealt in UTG: Ts 9h 8h 6s

Preflop:
(folds to Vil? in But)
Vil? (UTG): raises to 2000?
(folds to hero)
Hero (MP?): calls

(2 players - 5500 in pot)
Flop: 6c 5h 4c
Vil?: checks
Hero: checks

(2 players - 5500 in pot)
Turn: 6c 5h 4c 3s
Vil?: checks
Hero: checks

(2 players - 5500 in pot)
River: 6c 5h 4c 3s 9c
Vil?: checks
Hero: bets 2700
Vil?: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Hero does not have more than top pair and gutshot. Hero decides to play smaller pot in position.
Turn: Same as flop.
River: Villain checks river = villain's range is weak. Hero decides to bet for value and get worse 2 pair to call (folding to raise).
Hero's stack: ~22k

---------------
Poker room took a long time to determine pay out structure. They initially just gave the number of places to pay out.
"Big Andy" mentioned it was a bookkeeping issue, while WSOP_TD was not sure whether min cash payout should be > 1 or 2 entries value (which caused the delay).
It was determined that min cash is based on a single entry, so players who re-entered would not make a profit.

60 left 56 pay.
Official Bubble was 2 hands (of hand for hand play). Players were told to not congregate to other tables.
There was 1 all in on the first hand, but short stack doubled up.
Twitter: short stack with 4bb aces get cracked by k633 k3ss with river 3 on 985j3. ITM.

Hero plays relatively tight once the bubble bursts.

---------------
Level 11 - Blinds: 600/1200

Hero's stack: ~21k
Hero dealt: shows Ax Qh Jh 8c

BB (Vil8, 9k) was somewhat loose, somewhat passive preflop
Vil6 (50k) was a bit loose/splashy.

Preflop:
Hero (UTG+1?, 21k): raises to 2600
Vil6 (but or CO, 50k): calls
Vil8 (BB, 9k) - reraises all in
Hero: thinks for a little bit and reraises all in

Vil6: Qd Tx 8x 5d
Vil8: Ax Ks Js 6x
Hero: Ax Qh Jh 8x

Board: Q7359 (flush draw on flop, does not complete)
Vil6 busts 2 players simultaneously. hero was larger stack and busts in 47th

After hand, Vil6 says that he was playing to win and doesn't play that much PLO

Analysis:
Preflop:
2 lines of thought:
1. Hero thought he could force villain out of pot by squeeze. Would villain risk 40-50% of stack with a weak call? Hero's raise screams strength.
2. Hero thought about flatting preflop and jamming almost any flop - like Q73/2 (no flush draw) with < 1 PSB left

---------------
Hero out in 47th of 503 entries (including re-entries).
2 * 550€ -> 1000€
http://www.wsop.com/tournaments/results.asp?grid=1154&tid=14356

---------------
Overall Thoughts: The field seemed very soft. Hero was not happy to spew a bullet on a somewhat marginal play. Hero was fortunate to pick up a key double up when getting short stacked.
Hero out in 47th of 503 entries, just above a min cash. With two entries though, hero lost € 100 (22.2% of entry). Hero needed to cash in 40th or better.
(25 players bagged chips into day 2.)
