600 PLO8 MTT at Venetian Day 2

600 PLO8 MTT at Venetian
Hero's stack for restart: 48000 @ 1500/3000.

---------------
First Table Reads (back of room - left or middle table):
1 hero
2 young guy
3 old Asian/gray beard
4 young guy with glasses; eventually said he was mad that people were taking so long
5 [empty], eventually Jay from day 1 PLO8
6 young guy with grinderschool.com logo (Tobias H.)
7 young/mid aged African American guy
8 mid aged guy
9 young, middle aged guy

---------------
Level 14 - Blinds: 1500/3000

Hero had pretty much folded every hand for 1.5-2 rotations.
Hero had folded Ac Kx 7c 4x to Vil6's min raise when hero was in BB.
Hero's stack: 43000

Hero dealt in UTG: Ax Qc Qx 5c

Preflop:
Hero: raises to 6000
(folds to Vil6)
Vil6: calls

(2 players - 16500 in pot)
Flop: Jc 9x 4s
Hero: bets 7000
Vil6: calls

(2 players - 30500 in pot)
Turn: Jc 9x 4s 6c
Hero: bets 15000
Vil6: calls

(2 players - 60500 in pot)
River: Jc 9x 4s 6c 8h
Hero: bets 15000 (all in)
Vil6: grimaces/folds.

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero decides to open somewhat loosely UTG. Hero remembers read from a friend that Vil6 is an experienced player in PLO8 and all games in general.
Flop: Hero bets somewhat small with overpair, hero gets called and plans to fire 2 barrels.
Turn: Hero picks up some equity on the turn and continues firing.
River: A low completing river and only completing a bad OESD. Hero decides to continue with aggression. Hero's range is really strong. The triple barrel is a bit optimistic. Many AAxx with wheel or 2p+nut low (or 2nd nut low). Hero was fortunate to get fold against thinking villain.

Hero's stack: 75500

---------------
Hero dealt in CO: Ac 8x 5x 3c

Preflop:
(folds to hero)
Hero: raises to 7000
Vil4: reraises all in
Hero: calls

Vil4: shows As 7x Kx Js

Board: 8x 6s 4s 5x Ts

Chop pot.

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero was forced to bet call a smallish reraise. It's strength is not really great, but hero was hoping to see flop MW or with a deeper stack.

---------------
Hero dealt on Button: Ax Ac Jx 8c

Preflop:
(folds to hero on button)
Hero: raises to 6500
Vil3 (SB): calls
Vil4 (BB): folds

(2 players - 17500 in pot)
Flop: Ah 4h 3x
Vil3: checks
Hero: checks

(2 players - 17500 in pot)
Flop: Ah 4h 3x 2h
Vil3: bets 12000
Hero: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard
Flop: Standard check. There's not much merit to betting because hero is either way behind (to 52xx) or getting freerolled for half.
Turn: Worst turn card in the deck. There are so many wheel and/or flush combinations. Hero folds to any bet.

---------------
Level 15 - Blinds: 2000/4000

Hero folded Qx Qs 3s 2x to CO raise.
Hero made tight fold with As Ks Qx Tx in SB against Vil8 (nit) open

Hero dealt in CO: As 4x 3s 2x

Preflop:
(folds to hero)
Hero: raises to 9000
(other players fold)
Vil3: calls
Vil4 (short stack, ~5BB in BB): calls

(3 players - 29000 in pot)
Flop: Ax Tx 2x (rainbow)
Vil4: checks
Hero: bets 15000
Vil3: folds
Vil4: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero would bet/call a shove by Vil4.
Flop: Standard bet.

---------------
Hero dealt on button: Ax 9c 7c 5x
Read: Vil3: has hero covered and is playing very loose.

Preflop:
(folds to hero)
Hero: raises to 8000
Vil2 (But): folds
Vil3 (SB): calls
Vil4 (BB): folds

(2 players - 20000 in pot)
Flop: Qx Kx Kc
both players check

(2 players - 20000 in pot)
Turn: Qx Kx Kc 8s
both players check

(2 players - 20000 in pot)
River: Qx Kx Kc 8s Qs
Vil3: checks
Hero: bets 10500
Vil3: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Suited ace/wheel is decent open even against a loose defender. Hero thinks there is sufficient enough edge postflop to proceed.
Flop: Standard check with 100% of hero's range.
Turn: Some merit in double barrelling, but a check is fine.
River: Hero sees that villain does not want to fight for pot. Hero bets about the same size with entire part of range, and villain folds.

---------------
With field down to 26 players, there was no bubble!

2 players (including 1 player who sounded like he was a local LV reg who is an annoyance to others) busted the bubble at the same time.

Flop: Kh 8h 4d
Hero: bets 20000
Vil4: folds
Vil6: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard raise. Min raises seemed to be the standard size.
Flop: Hero is bet/calling. Hero has additional fold equity due to nut flush blocker.

---------------
7 handed
Hero dealt in BB: Ah Th 9x 3h

Preflop:
Vil4: raises to 17500
(folds to hero)
Hero: calls

(2 players - 37500 in pot)
Flop: 7x 5x 8x (rainbow)
both players check

(2 players - 37500 in pot)
Turn: 7x 5x 8x 6x Qx (rainbow)
Hero: bets 20000
Vil4: reraises pot
Hero: calls (all in)

Vil4: shows A542 rainbow

River: 7x 5x 8x 6x Qx

Pot is chopped.

Analysis:
Preflop: This is an ok defend with suited A3.
Flop: Hero has little high hand strength on a 3 low board. There is little fold equity. Both reasons = check.
Turn: Hero has nut straight + 2nd nut low and bet/calls. Standard play.

---------------
Hero dealt in HJ: Ah Ax 5x 2h

Preflop:
(folds to hero)
Hero: raises to 10000
(folds to Vil5)
Vil5 (BB): calls

(2 players - 22500 in pot)
Flop: 9x 4x 3x (rainbow)
Vil5: checks
Hero: bets 12000
Vil5: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard raise
Flop: Standard play to bet/call with overpair + wrap uncounterfeitable nut low.

---------------
Level 16 break - Hero's stack: 133k @ 3k/6k
Hero's tweet: Playing decent. 133k 3 and 6. 20 left.

---------------
Hero dealt in UTG (6 handed): Ad Jx 5x 3x
Read: Vil9 - seemed to be playing tight, but also saw some raises and aggression throughout his time at the table. Hero had been continuation betting often.

Preflop:
Hero: raises to 10000
(folds to Vil9)
Vil9 (BB, ~170k): calls

(2 players - 22500 in pot)
Flop: Kx 3d Qh
Vil9: checks
Hero: bets 14500
Vil9: raises to 43000
Hero: thinks for a while, then calls

Turn: Kx 3d Qh 6h
Vil9: bets pot
Hero: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard raise with ABww plus hero seemed to be getting a lot of fold equity on flop.
Flop: This was probably a spew. Hero should have simply played a turn card.
Hero compounds mistake by calling Vil9's raise. There are so few turn cards that hero can float or do well against. Hero does not have stack depth to get to river.

Hero's stack: 69000

---------------
Hero stole blinds to move up to 78000.

---------------
Hero dealt in BB: Ad Kc Qd Jc

Preflop:
Vil4: raises to 21000
Vil?: calls
Hero: calls

(3 players - 72000 in pot)
Flop: Td 4d 3x
Vil4: bets pot
Vil?: folds
Hero: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero has strong broadway hand. Good to call.
Flop: Hero missed board and with insufficient stack depth, this is a standard check/fold.

---------------
Two Table Consolidation - Player Reads:
1 Asian guy - middle aged (seat 4 in last table)
2 young, middle aged guy (seat 9 in last table)
3 young female Asian (hero played with her yesterday)
4 old guy/glasses
5 young guy - t-shirt/sleeve
6 old guy
7 young guy with iPhone
8 UNLV cap, young quiet guy
9 hero

---------------
As with the previous tournament, hero sits down and has to play BB after just paying BB and SB before 2 table consolidation.

Hero folds BB and SB and another full rotation. Hero's stack: 27k

---------------
Level 18 - Blinds: 4000/8000
16 players left (8 handed)
Hero dealt in SB: As Tx 3x 2s

Preflop:
(folds to Vil3)
Vil3 (UTG+1): raises to 18000
(folds to hero)
Hero: raises to 40000 (all in)
(folds to Vil3)
Vil3: asks for count, then calls

Vil3: shows Ax 7x 5x 2c

Board: Kx 9x 7x 4x Qx (hero does not remember exact run out, but hero believes that villain paired 7 (or possibly 5) and no low draw came on board. Hero did not pair.

Analysis:
Preflop: There is some merit to flat and see flop (ie: stop and go), but it could be played with 3 bet as by hero.

---------------
Hero: out in 15th of 223 entries.

There was a stronger mix of tougher players compared to an early WSOP table draw. But, there were still plenty of fish.

600 PLO8 MTT at Venetian

---------------
First Table Reads (back of room - left or middle table):
1 old guy, athletic, with sunglasses
2 old guy, balding
3 have cap (busted level 3) - seemed like fish
4 Asian, young, grey hair
5 (late register) - larger guy with glasses
6 young/mid aged guy, spiked hair
7 T. Manning - young/mid aged caucasian male
8 hero
9 older Asian

3 - eventually young white kid
6 - didn't bet AJxx on JJ8 board

Tournament started 15 minutes late. Hero was in registration line at that point and sat down after 1-2 minutes.

---------------
Hero dealt in BB: Ax Ts 8s 4x

Preflop:
4 players limp
Hero (BB): checks

(5 players - 500 in pot)
Flop: 9x 7x 4x (rainbow)
all players check

(5 players - 500 in pot)
Turn: 9x 7x 4x 6x (rainbow)
Vil8 (SB): checks
Hero: checks
Vil9: bets ~400?
Vil6: calls

(other players fold)

(3 players - 1900 in pot)
River: 9x 7x 4x 6x Jx (rainbow)
Hero: bets 1600
Vil9: calls
Vil6: calls

Neither player shows low, hero scoops.

Analysis:
Flop: Hero does not have strong hand and little fold equity multiway.
Turn: Should hero have c/r? It seems like it might be the best play to trap people for more bets.
check/raise > Lead > check/call
River: Maybe hero should check again? It is a suboptimal line as other villains may or may not bet, but they could call bet and hero gets 1/2 of likely 2 low hands.

---------------
Level 2 - Blinds: 75/150
Hero dealt UTG+1: Ad Ah Jx 2c

Preflop:
Hero: raises to 350
Vil2: calls
Vil5 (BB): calls

(3 players - 1125 in pot)
Flop: 5x 6d Qd
Vil5: checks
Hero: bets 700
Vil3: quick call

Turn: 5x 6d Qd 9x
Hero: bets 1600
Vil3: calls

(2 players - 5725 in pot)
River: 5x 6d Qd 9x 9d
Hero: bets 4000
Vil3: quickly calls
Vil3: shows Kd 3d Tx 4x

Hero's stack: 8k

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard raise. There's little value in trying to limp with premium hand.
Flop: Hero has NF blocker, overpair, and nut low draw. Easy bet/call.
Turn: Hero continues to barrel for value. Villain may continue to call with Qxxx w/ NLD, etc...
River: This is basically a bluff now with nut flush blocker. Hero's range looks like [boats, overpairs, NFD, naked low draw]. Hero gets shown top of villain's range though.

---------------

(2 players - 22050 in pot - 1 all in)
River: Jc 2x 5x Tc 5x

Analysis:
Flop: Hero has overpair + nut low and bets.
Turn: Hero is not folding nut low, but prospects for high decreased.
Hero out, takes a break, and re-enters.

---------------
Hero's 2nd bullet was placed "outside poker room" where a set of tables are setup near the sports book. First bullet was inside the poker room.

Hero dealt in SB: As Qs 9x 3x

Preflop:

Hero: calls

(2 players - ~3600 in pot)
Turn: Qh 8x 2h Xx (high card)
Vil6: checks
Hero: bets 2k?
Vil6: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: The hand is a little weak to 3-bet w/o better low wheel card (or high broadway card).
Flop: There might be merit in check/raising and betting most turn cards for value.
Turn: Hero continues to bet for value, villain folds.

---------------
Hero dealt in MP: Ad Qx 7x 3d

Preflop:
2 players limp
Hero: limps

(5 players - 1k in pot)
Flop: As Jc Th Ah
all players check

(5 players - 1k in pot)
Turn: As Jc Th Ah
Vil4: bets 300
Vil5: raises to 900
(all other players fold)
Vil4: calls

Analysis:
Preflop: There's some value in trying to play a raised pot against 2 limpers, but it's hard to know if there's fold equity. Hero decides to keep pot small.
Flop: Hero check = standard.
Turn: Hero check/fold = probably best as hero is drawing possibly thin to boat outs.

---------------
Hero's stack at 1st break: 13,300 @ 150/300

---------------
Hero dealt in BB: Ah Ad 7d 7h

Preflop:
(folds to Vil7)
Vil7 (EP): limps
(folds to hero)
Hero (BB): checks

(2 players - 750 in pot)
Flop: 2s 3d 6h
Hero: checks
Vil7: bets 300
Hero: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Should hero raise with AAL? Probably. This was a bit of a leak given the stack depth.
Flop: A pretty bad flop for hero. Hero decides to check/fold. It is a bit weak, and hero should consider check/call and see the turn.

---------------
Hero's image: pretty nitty
Read: Vil4 tended to bet pot often

Hero dealt in CO: Ah 6x 4h 4x

Preflop:
Vil6 (EP): limps
Hero (CO): limps
Vil4 (SB): calls
Vil5 (BB): checks

(4 players - 1200 in pot)
Flop: Kx 2h Kd
Vil4: bets 600
Vil5: folds
Vil6: calls
Hero: calls

(2 players - 2400 in pot)
Turn: Kx 2h Kd 9d
Vil4: checks
Hero: bets 1600
Vil4: calls

(2 players - 5200 in pot)
Board: Kx 2h Kd 9d 2x
Vil4: checks
Hero: bets 3500
Vil4: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: This is an ok hand to limp with suited ace. It is a little loose given it is A4, but it is ok in a passive game.
Flop: With backdoor high (nut flush draw) and low (2nd nut low) equity, hero decides to peel. Vil4 read and hero's current image were important.
Turn: Hero will likely double barrel almost all turn textures.
River: Hero follows through on river.

---------------
Hero's stack: 15,500

---------------
Hero dealt in UTG+2 (8 handed): Ah Jh 9h 3x

Preflop:
(folds to Vil2)
Vil2 (UTG+1): limps
Hero: limps
(folds to Vil8)
Vil8 (Button): calls
Vil9 (SB): calls
Vil1 (BB): checks

(5 players - 2500 in pot)
Flop: Jx Js 3s 5s 9d
all players check

(5 players - 2500 in pot)
Turn: Jx Js 3s 5s 9d
Vil2: checks
Hero: bets 1600
3 players fold
Vil2: calls

(2 players - 5700 in pot)
River: Jx Js 3s 5s 9d
Hero: bets 3800
Vil2: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Given passive play at table and little betting postflop, hero plays a semi-weak suited A3 hand in early position.
Flop: Hero decides to slowplay given number of players in flop.
Turn: Hero decides to bet turn to build pot and price out low draws. Vil2's likely calling range: nut low, maybe some overpairs.
River: Should hero check and/or bet smaller? A check might have been better since hero has board crushed and Vil2's range is more heavily weighted towards low draws than made hands (55xx, bad wraps that missed, etc...). It can also help hero's image in the future.

---------------
Blinds: 250/500

Hero dealt in BB: Qc 7c 7x 6x

Preflop:
3 players limp
Hero (BB): checks

(4 players - 2000 in pot)
Flop: Ax Kx Kc
all players check

(4 players - 2000 in pot)
Turn: Ax Kx Kc 6c
Hero sees Vil4 grab chips.
Hero: bets 1400
Vil4: raises to 5000

Hero: thinks for a while, then folds.

Analysis:
Flop: Standard check.
Turn: Hero usually takes time and waits to see what villains to the left of hero might do. Hero ignores this and bets. A spew of 1400 chips.

---------------
Hero dealt on button: Ah Js 4h 3x on button

Preflop:
Vil2: limps
Hero: raises to 1400
Vil4 (SB): calls
Vil5 (BB): folds

(3 players - 4700 in pot)
Flop: Ax Kx Qx (rainbow)
Vil4: checks
Vil2: checks
Hero: bets 2700
Vil4: folds
Vil2: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero isolates a player with a semi-strong 2 way hand. A limp could be ok, but hero's hand strength is probably best in a HU pot.
Flop: Villains seemed to be playing their hands face up and check/folding if they missed. Hero decides to bet the flop on a "locked down board" and would probably consider double barrelling such a dry board.

---------------
Hero's stack at dinner break: 18,600 @ 300/600

---------------
Dinner Reads:

1 straightforward, tight
2 straightforward, tight
3 hero - nit/tag
4 ? - seemed loose; notices he telegraphs action while hero is looking at cards
5 none (new player - older Indian player)
6 open PLO rundown - c/c
7 none ... shortly after dinner - barrels weak NLD + bottom pair
8 looser preflop
9 none

River: Ax Jd 7d Qc 5s
Vil6: checks
Hero: bets 10,000 (all in)
Vil6: goes in the tank for a while, then folds

Analysis:
Preflop: 432r is an ok open to steal the blinds.
Flop: Hero decides to barrel uncounterfeitable low draw, probably leading to a double or triple barrel.
Turn: Not a great turn card, but hero decides to continue barrelling.
River: The real question: does hero bet high cards? diamonds? Standard spot to try to get Vil6 to fold.

---------------
Level 8 - Blinds: 400/800

Hero dealt in HJ: Ah 7x 7x 3h

Preflop:

Vil6: checks
Hero: checks

(2 players - 4400 in pot)
Turn: Ac 2c 6x 4c
Vil6: checks
Hero: bets 2500
Vil6: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: A3xx A3ss is a standard open in the HJ.
Flop: Hero only has some backdoor equity and a bad low draw. Hero decides to check.
Turn: Scare card for villain, hero decides to bet/fold in this spot. If villain calls or raises, hero is up against 53xx or flush so often against this straightforward villain.

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard call with some tighter villains in hand. Hero might do well with a 1 way double suited rundown.
Flop: Standard fold.

---------------
Hero was dealt Ac 6c 5x 3x and folded to raise and reraise before action gets to hero. Hero could try to flop well with a short stack and 2 players likely to get all in, but hero's risking a large chunk of stack just to see flop with little fold equity.

It is weird that there was 1 last level before ending the night. Maybe it was better to play 2 levels and cut a dinner break shorter?

---------------
Hero dealt in HJ: Ah Kh Jx 3x

Preflop:
(folds to Vil6)

Hero: checks

(2 players - 13200 in pot)
Turn: Ax Ax Qh 8h
Vil6: checks
Hero: bets 7500
Vil6: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: This could be a 3b candidate, but hero decides to keep pot small.
Flop: Hero has no need to bet flop on such dry board. Hero would rather let villain take stab on turn or hero can bet turn if checked to on non-low card turns.
Turn: Low card turn = hero bet.

---------------
Hero limp/folded A652r.
Hero notices a lot of Vil9's bets and/or check raising of Vil4's bets.

---------------
Hero's stack: 37200 1500 3000

Hero wins the last pot in a multiway pot.

Hero's stack for restart: 48000 @ 1500/3000.

Given hero's stack size, hero did not really research the normal day 2 prep that would normally occur (researching table draws, etc...).
Hero should have done this anyway just in case for a good run. A mistake that hopefully will not happen again.

---------------
Hero's stack: 5700 @ 600/1200.

---------------
129 players remain to start day 2.
Hero has second shortest stack of remaining 129 entries.
Next pay jump: 117 entries ($1,815 -> $1,978)

Hero was placed in seat 2, so hero immediately had to pay BB and SB.
1 person busted in 1st hand at table (took 5-6 minutes). Villain had 30k @ 600/1200 (25 BBs).

Hero saw 5 players bust from 129 starting the day in 2 hands. 124 left.

---------------
Hero's stack: 3900

Hero's 3rd hand:
Hero dealt on button: Qx Qx 9x 7x

Vil9 (CO): raises to 4200
Hero: calls
BB: calls

(3 players - 11700 in main pot, 600 in side pot, 1 player all in)
Flop: 7s 5s 3x
Vil5: checks
Vil9: bets pot
Vil5: raises all in
Vil9: calls

Vil5: shows 64xx
Vil9: shows flush draw

Vil5 wins the pot.
Hero was drawing dead.

Analysis:
This might have been slightly rushed decision and not as thought through at the time. QQxx is definitely worth shoving against 1 random villain.
ICM might say it's actually +EV to sit on hands in this spot for ~18% buy in jump). Eliminations were happening quickly and hero can guarantee a small pay jump by waiting for 7 people to bust. Hero doubling more chips does not really guarantee much.

---------------
Hero received payout slip after busting.

Hero bumped into an old Asian male at the payout line (who was falling asleep at the first couple tables after running deep in the 10k LO8. He just busted after hero.
Hero also talked with 1 person about the ICM questions.

Hero went to payout desk, showed ID, and it was entered in system for payout in the payout area (which can be picked up at any time before WSOP finishes.)

Hero out in 124th of 1,293 players (largest WSOP PLO event to date). Hero is fortunate to have first WSOP cash. Hero noticed there was some weak play throughout the tournament too.

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard isolation raise with strong holding
Flop: Hero bets top pair w/ 3 overs/no flush draw. It's a little thin, but rather normal. Hero gets called by naked flush draws, wraps.
Turn: Hero has little fold equity against most of calling range. Hero checks.
River: Same as turn.

---------------
Hero dealt on button: Ah Jx 8h 7x

Preflop:

Vil2: calls

(2 players - 1775 in pot)
River: Td 9d 7c 3c 3s
Vil2: checks
Hero: bets 1050
Vil2: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: On button, this is about middle of opening range.
Flop: Hero decides to be somewhat deceptive in HU pot. But in reality, hero can get check raised often. However, there are not a lot of great turn cards on such a wet texture (over straights, flush draws).
Turn: Hero decides to raise on turn once villain shows aggression. There's merit to playing passive and letting villain barrel twice though.
River: This may not be the best of bets. It's a bit thin (as the only hope is villain thinks that hero semi-bluffed turn and continues again on the river. Hero might get called by bad 2 pairs.

---------------
Hero's cards sort of flash while hitting the muck. This may have given a hint to some players at the table.

---------------
Effective stacks: 5k @ 25/50

Turn: 6c 3c Qc Js

River: 6c 3c Qc Js 6s
all players check

Hero shows AAxx and wins the pot.

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero thought about reraising, but hero will not be able to put 1/3 effective stack in preflop, thus leaving a "guessing game". Hero decides to play a smaller pot.
Flop/Turn/River: Hero decides to avoid turning hand into bluff as hero can beat a lot of random non-flush hands.

Analysis:

Flop: Hero has little fold equity against villain who knows that hero is tight.
Turn: There is some value in betting here, but hero decides to keep the pot small.
River: This is a bit of a suspicious bet. Hero has greatly under-represented hand, but would villain bet 2 pair here? This is definitely a call but never raise spot.

Board: Qx Qx Jx 9x 7x (rainbow flop, no one had flush draw on turn)

Analysis:

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero can definitely raise in this spot preflop with a relatively strong holding.
Flop: There is some merit to betting to get value from straight draws. Hero decides to pot control because there are many "brick" turns.
Turn: This is a good turn card. Hero bets and no one calls.

Analysis:
Preflop: Stacks are too deep to re-raise.
Flop: Hero could lead flop, but did not since it was so dry. It's a style thing and hero probably should have considered donking the flop.
Turn: Hero decides to mix it up and donk the turn though with flush draw coming.
River: Hero decides to check/call river. Maybe this is actually a better spot to bet, tbh. Many worse hands (Top 2 pair) could call.
If villain had a broadway wrap that got there, that is unfortunate. Villain may bluff random Axxx with flush draw, etc... on the river.

---------------
Blinds: 100/200

Vil3 (UTG+2): raises to 450

Hero: decides to fold

Vil3 talked with hero the next day. Hero said he made nitty fold with that hand because villain had rarely re-raised and hero was trying to avoid big confrontations with stacks that were similar stack size (at the time, both players were fairly deep with 55-60 BBs).
It's a bit of a nitty spot, but it seemed like the right play.

---------------
Hero probably dealt: Ax Xx Xx Xx (Ax suited)

both players check

(2 players - 2000 in pot)
River: Ax Qx 5x Ax 9c
Hero: bets 1350
Vil6: folds

Analysis (assuming hero's projected holding):
Flop: Hero check/calls with Axxx + backdoor flush draw. Hero decides to avoid raising a weak top pair only hand although there may be fold equity on dry board.
Turn: Hero should be betting for value. When villain checks, it is a lot of weak semi-bluff hands hoping to see a river card.
River: A thin value bet with naked Axxx (unless hero has like AK/AJ, then it's more of a value bet since weaker Axxx may call river), but hero thinks villain may bluff catch anyway (maybe like KQJT/KQJ9, etc...).

Vil2: mucks hand before hero shows anything

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard raise with a semi-connected rundown.
Flop: Hero has little fold equity.
Turn: There is some merit in raising and trying to get value from flush draws that are semi-bluffing. It would be a bit thin as the other straights would call.
River: Given hero's read (and just villains in general), this should be a relatively easy call down. Nothing changed in terms of board texture. Villain will probably barrel flush draws on river that missed.
Also, villain 3 is a likely thinking player and understands that 2 barrelling is essential in PLO this board.
Vil6 says he would have called a long time ago.

Vil5: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard, as there's not enough to limp/re-raise (plus turning hand face up).
Flop: Hero is check/folding.
Turn: Hero decides to likely fire two barrels (turn/river). The bet sizing seems ok to put in 1/2 of stack in and be able to fold to raise.

It took a good couple minutes to chop the pot properly.

Analysis:

---------------
Hero did try to play a small pot just before dinner break against Vil4 with hero in LP steal. Hero ended up folding to turn check raise.

---------------

River:

Vil4: showed JJxx
Vil5: showed KJ99

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero had a gapped suited ace. OOP, there's no problem folding it with only 2 other players in the pot. Hero would have to check/fold a ton of boards (except this one, hero would c/r all in).

---------------
Thoughts:
Hero has 15BB, should hero be raising with AAxx? It seems like the right play, although limp/reraising can get lots of folds depending on villain's competency. Maybe it's better to limp/re-raise rundowns for balance.

Hero dealt UTG: Ah Ad 6h 3d

Preflop:
Hero: limped
Hero eventually folds to flop bet.

---------------
Fourth Table Reads (Table #16):
1 hero
2 middle eastern guy with sunglasses
3 Mike Leah
4 young guy with glasses
5 bald mid aged guy with glasses
6 younger guy - spikey dyed hair
7 old guy with cap
8 young guy with hoodie
9 guy with headphones, spiked one outer early on

Note: If table #17 completely empties, hero is ITM.

At the time, there were 20 tables still in play (at most 180 players for 144 pay spots).

---------------
Hero's stack: about 6300
1st hand at new table
Blinds: 400/800

Hero dealt in BB: Ax Ah 8h 3x

Preflop:

(folds to hero)
Hero: raises all in
Vil7: calls

Vil7: shows QQ99 (possibly with 1 suit).
Board: did not write down, but no flush draws or straight possibilities.

Hero doubles.

Analysis: Standard play.

---------------
Vil9 had just doubled after spiking a 1 outer a couple hands earlier.

Hero's stack (effective stacks) - 13k
Hero dealt in UTG+2: Ax As 9s 3x

Preflop:
Vil9 (UTG): raises
Hero: thinks for a while, then raises to 5k
(other players fold)
Vil9: calls

Flop: Kx Jx 5x (rainbow)
Vil9: says "I bet pot."
Hero: goes into the tank.

Hero thinks for 2 minutes, still not sure what to do.
Mike Leah says "nothing personal, but I'm calling clock."

Floor eventually comes over.
Floor announces "You have 1 minute to act on your hand."
Hero thinks through things some more, then folds with 5-10 seconds remaining. Hero thanks floor for the time.

Mike Leah commented that hero was very kind/courteous even though clock was called. He alluded to the fact that hero might be Canadian.
Hero and Mike eventually talk and seem friendly throughout the rest of the day of play.

Analysis:
Preflop: This is pretty much a mistake IP. Hero does not have strong aces. Villain could donk a bunch of flops and hero is left in a guessing game. Hero should be preserving chips, and a flat call/set mine is best.

After the day was over, Vil9 says "I had a huge hand - AKQJ. I was afraid it was going to check around."
Hero's reply: "...would have checked the flop since it's such a dry board and figure things out on the turn."

---------------
Hero's stack: 7200 @ 400/800
Hero dealt in BB: Ax Kx Kc 2c

Preflop:
(folds to button)
Vil8: raises to 1800
Vil9 (SB): folds
Hero: re-raises all in
Vil8: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero is fortunate to get a fold. This is an easy shove because hero does not believe with 5BBs that he will survive. Hero is not really looking to have to see showdown, but hero likely does not have enough chips to get ITM (it was a bit close with 6 BBs once I pass the SB and 2 or so tables to go.)

Hero's stack: 8400 after small blind passes.

WSOP 1500 HORSE MTT at Rio

1500 HORSE MTT at Rio
7500 starting chips at 100/200 limits and 60 min. levels.

---------------
First Table Reads (back of room - left or middle table):
1 (registered 5 min. late) - old guy with glasses
2 "British" poker pro - mid aged - Mark Gregorich
3 late reg - mid aged guy
4 old guy - bald (Brian from Google)
5 young/mid aged buy with black shirt
6 old guy w/ glasses and hat
7 old guy w/ cap
8 hero

First 3 levels are double levels.
The "Dealer's Choice" button (instead of lammers) were used to help indicate when the game should change. When the "Dealer's Choice" button passes the dealer, the game changes. This would not force players to pay multiple within the H and O orbits (if each game went 8 hands and only 4-5 players were seated as at the start of the tournament when few tables are full).

Hero showed up a couple minutes late and missed the LHE rotation. Hero sat down in time to play LO8.
When hero sat down, play was 5 handed.

---------------
Hero also tried a simple VPIP counter for all players and was keeping good track on various players. Hero noticed Vil3 stole a ton in razz/stud, while Vil6 was drawing to half often in LO8. Vil2 seemed passive with draws.
The VPIP counter didn't really work so well though as it became rather cumbersome.

---------------
LO8
Hero dealt in BB: AKQ2r.

Preflop:
(Folds to CO)
Vil4 (CO): raises
folds to hero
Hero: reraises
Vil4: calls

(2 players - 6.5 small bets in pot)
Flop: Jx 9x 2x (hero doesn't remember exact board, but fairly sure it is a 2 high/1 low board and hero paired low card)
Hero: bets
Vil4: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero has strong hand which likely crushes villain's opening CO range.
Flop: Standard bet with lots of fold equity on a 2 high board texture. Hero would probably fire a lot of high (non-low) turns.

---------------
Stud Hi
Dead Cards: 3s 4x 9s
(hero doesn't remember all up cards and betting details)
BI

K dead in EP
Hero: (Kx 6x) Kx Tx 8x 7x (Qx)
Vil6: (Xx Xx) 8x Xx Xx Xx Xx (villain's board was probably not threatening...no huge straight/flush draws)

hero bet/call every street, then checked river and villain checked behind.

Analysis: Hero doesn't remember much of the hand, but hero decided to complete with split Ks and bet the whole way.
7th Street: Hero "polarized river" by not betting on end with "1 pair". In a vacuum, hero needs to avoid check 1p/bet 2p on 7th. It's thin to bet KK or AA on 7th unimproved.
Villain was likely check/calling when bricked on 7th.

---------------
LO8
Hero dealt in BB: Ad 2d 2h Jx

Preflop:
Vil1: call
Vil3: raise
Vil4: call
Hero (BB): call
Vil1: call

(4 players - 8.5 small bets in pot)
Flop: Jd Qx 8x
Hero: checks
Vil1: checks
Vil3: bets
Vil4: folds
Hero: raises
Vil1: folds
Vil3: calls

(2 players - 6.25 big bets in pot)
Turn: Jd Qx 8x Kc
Hero: bets
Vil3: raises
Hero: thinks for a second, then calls

(2 players - 10.25 big bets in pot)
River: Jd Qx 8x Kc 4x
Hero: checks
Vil3: bets
Hero: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Standard.
Flop: Hero decides to c/r, but maybe that is not the best line. Hero is trying to setup some fold equity on later streets, but vil4's bet in MW pot does have some strength. Vil4 may also remember that hero showed aggression earlier in a 3b pot in LO8.
Turn: This is probably a spew to bet/call instead of bet/fold. There are few good turn cards, and hero has little fold equity on most rivers. Hero noticed it took a little while to call and noticed that there may be a timing tell that needs to be controlled.
River: There's little chance to bluff on a blank.

---------------
Razz
Hero defended bring in once against steal position complete with (23)K, but folded when hero bricked on 4th.

Dead Cards: 7x Tx 4x Jx

Vil6 (BI): (2x 3x) Kx Xx Xx Xx (Xx) - eventually shows 6532Axx
Hero: (2x 5x) 6x 8x Ax Qx (7x)
Vil?: (Xx) Xx) 7x 4x Tx ?x (Xx)

Analysis:
Hero doesn't remember much about hand. Hero likely completed in early position.
Vil6 may have been bring in, but led 6th and 7th after check/calling previous streets.
With bring in calling MW< range is pretty narrow to 2 wheel cards.

---------------
Stud
3rd Street:
Dead Cards: 5c
(folds to Vil6)
Vil6: (Xx Xx) Ks __completes
Vil7: (Xx Xx) Tc __calls
Hero: (6c 9c) 3c __calls

Analysis:
Hero bricks 4th street and folds.
Standard play to call with 1 dead flush card in bring in.

---------------
LHE
Hero dealt: TT

Preflop:
(folds to Vil4 in EP)
Vil4: raises
(folds to hero)
Hero (SB): reraises
Vil4: calls

(2 players - 7 small bets in pot)
Flop: 3h 4s Qc
Hero: bets
Vil4: calls

(2 players - 4 1/2 big bets in pot)
Turn: 3h 4s Qc 8x 8x
Hero: bets
Vil4: calls

(2 players - 6 1/2 big bets in pot)
River: 3h 4s Qc 8x 8x
Hero: checks
Vil4: checks

Vil4: shows JJ, hero mucks

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero isolation play is standard (gap concept).
Flop: Standard.
Turn: This might be a bit thin of a value bet. Sure, some AK/AJ/lower pairs are calling 2 streets.
River: Would AK/AJ/lower pairs call a 3rd bet? It's unlikely.

---------------
LO8:
Hero dealt on button: Ad 2d 8s 9s

Preflop:
(4 players limp)
Hero: calls
Vil1 (SB): calls
Vil2 (BB): checks

(7 players - 7 small bets in pot)
Flop: (2 low board)
(checks to Vil6)
Vil6: bets
4 other players call including hero

(5 players - 6 big bets in pot)
Turn: (low completes)
Vil6: bets
Vil3: folds
other players call

(3 players - 9 big bets in pot)
River: High card, no flush or very straightening board (like T4537), hero still has nut low/no high
Vil6: bets
Hero: calls
Vil2: folds

Vil6: Shows 2p+nut low.
Hero gets 1/4.

Analysis:
Preflop: There is definitely merit in raising and getting 2 bets in with strong A2. But, there's no fault in keeping small pot either.
Flop: With multiple players in pot and little/no chance to scoop, hero plays passive and hopes others call.
Turn: With multiple players in pot and little/no chance to scoop, hero plays passive and hopes others call.
River: Hero calls hoping to get at least a quarter.

---------------
Hero's stack at Level 3 break: 4875 @ 150/300 limits

---------------
Razz
3rd Street:
Dead Cards: 6x 6x 8x
Hero: (6x 2x) 5x
(Hero doesn't remember bring in location.)

(3 players - ~8 1/4 small bets in pot)
4th Street:
Vil1: (Xx Xx) 8x 5x ____calls
Vil3: (Xx Xx) 6x 2x __bets
Hero: (6x 2x) 5x 9x __calls

(3 players - 5 5/8 big bets in pot)
5th Street:
Vil1: (Xx Xx) 8x 5x 7x ____calls
Vil3: (Xx Xx) 6x 2x 3x __bets
Hero: (6x 2x) 5x 9x 8x __tanks/folds

(2 players - 7 5/8 big bets in pot)
6th street
Vil1: (Xx Xx) 8x 5x 7x ??
Vil3: (Xx Xx) 6x 2x 3x Qx

Analysis:
3rd: Hero likely completes if folded to hero, but hero doesn't remember exact position. Hero could also consider raising a complete.
4th: Hero caught a semi-brick against 2 stronger boards. Hero's draw is pretty live, so hero continues.
5th: Hero could be in 3rd place. Hero's draw is semi-live. This is a borderline call or fold as hero only really beats bricks in the hole + hero's board has little implied value (98 showing).

---------------
Stud
Hero made tight fold in BI with (6x 2x) 2x with 5 and 8 completing in late position steal.

Dead cards: Ax, Ax, 3x, 6x
Hero dealt (Tx 9x) 9x UTG

Analysis:
Does hero call/fold? This is one of those spots with a short stack that hero's unsure. Hero shows a lot of strength raising UTG, but hero is in really bad shape if reraised. Is this a complete/fold spot? Hero also is IP, but it is bad with an A who can continue to lead on most 4th street runouts.

---------------
Hero's stack at level 5: 2k @ 200/400 limits

---------------
Stud 8
Hero's hand: (As 2x) 8s

3rd street:
Vil1: (Xx Xx) 3x __brings in__fold
Vil2: (Xx Xx) 7x __fold
Vil3: (Xx Xx) Ax __complete
Vil4: (Xx Xx) 6x __fold
Vil5: (Xx Xx) 6x __fold
Vil7: (Xx Xx) 5x __fold
Hero: (As 2x) 8s __call

(2 players - 2 5/8 small bets in pot)
4th street:
Vil3: (Xx Xx) Ax Ax __bet
Hero: (As 2x) 8s 5x __fold

Analysis:
3rd street: Vil3 does not likely have split aces. A nitty play is to fold given hero's A is dead with 3 low cards and ace.
4th street: Hero's equity decreased greatly. In a cash game, hero is never folding. But, does hero call 4th with many dead low cards and little chance to scoop? Hero decides to fold.

---------------
Side note: Rio's fire alarms started going off around level 3. No players move. Hero decides to check to see that there is no movement and no emergencies outside of Brasilia.

---------------
LO8
Hero's stack: 2350 @ 200/400
Read: Vil7 was tighter than hero.

Hero dealt in BB: Ad 2d 4x Tx

Preflop:
Vil3: limps
Vil4: limps
Vil5: limps
Vil6: folds
Vil7: limps
Hero: calls
Vil1 (SB): calls
Vil2 (BB): checks

(6 players - 6 small bets in pot)
Flop: Ac Jc 4x
Vil4: bets
Vil7: raises
Hero: tanks/folds

Vil7: eventually shows Axxx with nut flush draw.

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero has no reason to raise since there is little fold equity preflop.
Flop: Hero was going to raise Vil4's bet, but Vil7 had been a nit. Hero decides to fold and try to pick a better spot.

---------------
Hero saw this hand in LO8:

Board: 6x Tx 5x Ax 9x

Vil4: shows 6432r
Vil3: shows ATJJ
Vil2: shows AT32, and was betting the whole way

---------------
LO8: Hero gets walk in SB

---------------
Hero has 600 chips at 200/400 limits.

Stud
Read: Vil7 continued to be tight.

Dead cards: 2x, 2x, 7x, 3x
Vil7: (Xx Xx) Jx __completes
Hero: (6x 6x) 3x __tanks/folds

Analysis:
In a cash game, this is likely a fold since hero doesn't even have an overcard to villain's raise.
In a tournament, should this be a call and hope to be 40% equity with little to no fold equity?

---------------
Unfortunately, hero doesn't find a spot and was paying bring ins and antes until hero was all in during stud 8 round.
For some reason, hero did not write down hand. Sigh.

---------------
Overall, hero really did not get a lot going. Hero could not find much fold equity, nor could hero make many hands. There were also few profitable steal spots. Hero's table draw was not great. Hero was making correct reads on tightness of villains, but hero could not really do much given the situations.

Hero out in level 6 (about 1/3-1/2 way through the level). 772 total runners.
