Ray Glover
played at the Bellagio
with upright bassist
saw on the way out of the Bellagio
He was playing a lot of standards/tunes from the Real book. He tended to do a lot of "full comping" (ie: rooted left hand hits).
I gave my background and he said he was glad that someone is learning what can be a dying art (jazz piano)
right at midnight, he played a rather "boring" version of Happy Birthday for someone...although, the tune itself doesn't have much you can harmonically change w/ it still having the same "basic" idea...
I also purchased one of his CDs. It was more on the "smooth jazz" genre, which is OK, but not as harmonically interesting.
