125 NLO8 with Rebuys MTT at Commerce

$125 NLO8 MTT with $100 rebuys.
2500 starting chips with 2500 chip rebuys when stack <= 2500. 5000 chip add on after 4 levels.
Blinds start at 25/50.

---------------
Player Reads (first table 55):

1 hero
2 young guy with glasses
3 older guy
4 middle aged guy - eventually found out he was more of a NLHE player
5
6 middle aged lady - like NLHE player playing the MTT to pass the time
7 younger aged guy - headphones
8 old Asian male with glasses
9 young (20s-30s) Asian male (who also was at the PLO8 MTT)

---------------
Hero dealt: Ax Qs 3s 2s (Q32 suited)
Flop: 985 r (hero does not have flush draw).
Hero made nitty fold in MW pot.

Hero isolated limper with Ac Xc 3c 2x and won pot with cbet.

Twitter: Soft late reg table. Most are bad calling stations but some are nits. Not much fun stuff for hero yet. 4275 at 75 150. Rebuy for two more levels.

---------------
Vil2 had ~2000
Hero has ~5000
Vil5 has ~5000

Hero dealt in CO: AT62 (A2) suited.

Preflop:
Vil5: limps
Hero: raises to 600
Vil2: calls
Vil5: calls

(3 players - 1800 in pot)
Flop: K8K two tone
Vil5: checks
Hero bets 1000
Vil2 (short stack): raises to 2200 total
Vil5: folds
Hero thinks/calls.

Villain shows A962.
Board: two high cards.
Hero scoops pot.

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero has decent strength to raise preflop.
Flop: This was actually a bet/fold spot against the bigger stack.
With backdoor low equity (low appears 20% of time with 3 low cards in hero's hand), this became a bet call.

Hero's stack: 7875
Twitter: Lol busted short stack. Hero had best hand on K8K two tone with at62. Short stack jammed with a962. No flush draw for either.
7875 soon 75 150 25

---------------
Hero dealt in SB: A853 (A3) suited

Preflop:
Hero calls
(3 players - 1800 in pot)
Flop: 58K rainbow
Hero bets 1100
1 player calls

(2 players - 4000 in pot)
Turn: 58KK rainbow
both players check

(2 players - 4000 in pot)
River: 58KKQ rainbow
both players check

Villain: shows A852

Chopped pot

Analysis:
Preflop: Passive table, so hero decides to keep pot small OOP and complete.
Flop: bottom 2 pair + 2nd nut low draw = bet.
Turn: This is a bad turn card as some of villain's range now has trips (the rest are draws).
In theory, this could have been a bet/fold spot.
River: Same as turn.

---------------
Stack at first break:
6475 + 5000 = 11475 at 25 100 200
Other thoughts: Our table has not had many rebuys though...
Just after the first break:
Twitter: First time i saw a dealer accidentally try to eighth someone in three quarter situation.

---------------
Blinds: 100/200, 25 ante
Hero has no reads on villain/doesn't remember which player was in hand
Hero dealt in MP: AQJTr

Preflop:
(folds to hero in MP)
Hero raises to 500
BB calls

(2 players - 1225 in pot)
Flop: Qh Ac 9s
Hero: bets 800
Vill: raises to 2000
Hero: calls

(2 players - 5225 in pot)
Turn: Qh Ac 9s Th
Vill: checks
Hero: checks

(2 players - 5225 in pot)
River: Qh Ac 9s Th 7h
Vill: bets ~2000
Hero: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: This is an ok hand as a "range balancer" to raise preflop in MP/LP.
Flop: Hero bet/calls seems pretty standard.
Turn: Hero could turn hand into bluff and bet, but hero decides to try to get to showdown cheaply.
River: The flushing river and villain's small bet seems somewhat polarized. Villain has a flush and wants value (like many MTT pros from my limited experience), or villain bet/folds a ton with a weak made hand (AQ+).
Hero has a bluff catcher, but maybe the best play was to call...

---------------
Blinds: 150/300 with 25 ante
Hero's stack around ~10k
Vil?'s stack around ~15k
Other players have ~7-10k.

Hero dealt in HJ: Ac Qx 4c 3c

Preflop:
3 limps
Hero raises to 900
BB: calls
3 callers

(5 players - 4600 in pot)
Flop: 6c 3x Qx
1 player leads for 700
1 players call
Hero: calls
Vil?: calls
all other players (including hero) call

(5 players - 8100 in pot)
Turn: 6c 3x Qx 4d
2 checks
Hero checks turn
Vil?: bets ~4k
Hero: folds

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero raise is standard.
Flop: Hero made mistake. This was a good spot to overship...2p + 2nd nut low draw and bdfd.
Turn: Turn card completes a low and gutshots...Hero could try to check/call, but hero would like face another river bet and many board run outs don't change the texture of the board.

---------------
Hero dealt in HJ: A982 (A2)(98) double suited

Preflop:
folds to hero in HJ.
Hero (8800): raises to 1100
Vil2 (But) (~10k) : calls
Vil5 (BB) (15k): calls

(3 players - 3950 in pot)
Flop: 885 two tone (hero has bdfd).

BB: bets 2000
Hero: raises all in (5700 more)
Button: folds
BB: calls

Villain: shows A553 (rainbow)
Turn: 885J two tone (hero has bdfd).
River: 885J3 two tone (hero has bdfd).

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero raises in LP is standard.
Flop: Villain donking range is naked A8, etc... Hero wasn't happy to see near top of villain's range.

Hero's stack: ~9.6k

---------------
twitter:
806p Waiting to ship all in. 7600 75 300 600. Not even any spots to get it in.

Hero folded for 3 rotations. Just at the break:
Hero's stack: ~7k
BB's stack: ~12k

Hero dealt in CO: Q874 (Q8 suited)

Preflop:
folds to hero in CO
Hero: raises all in
2 folds
BB: Thinks for a while, then calls
Villain: shows KKT6 (KT) (K6) double suited
Board: 9Q4A8 no flush draw

Analysis:
Preflop: Very loose open...actually a mistake and should have been open folded. Three low cards are nice to back into half...but hero's 74 low is pretty horrible...
Villain tanked for a long time and called. It's an OK hand to call, although hero probably would have found a way to fold (possibly incorrectly although with KKT6, hand can never make a low and never really has great hot/cold scoop equity)...

---------------
Hero's stack at break: 13500 @ 400/800/100

Hero was encouraged by other players' text messages.

---------------
830p
Immediately after break, limp them hero raises all in aak6 ss. Same villain calls with ak54. Hero has 21800.
Hero dealt in HJ: AAK6 (A6) suited

Preflop:
folds to hero in HJ
Hero: raises all in
(2 folds)
SB: calls
BB: folds

Board: Js Qs Ks Jx 5h

Hero scoops.
Hero's stack: 21800

Analysis:
Preflop: After last hand, hero can't just "small raise". Particular villain (and other villains) is/are likely calling wide (although the only person who saw the raise all in was the SB...)

---------------
A couple hands later...

Hero's stack: 22k
SB stack: ~14k
BB stack: ~30k

Hero dealt in UTG+1: Ad Ax Jd 9x

Preflop:
(folds to hero)
Hero: raises to 2k
(5 folds)
SB: calls
BB: calls

Flop: Kd 7d 5x

SB: checks
BB: checks

Hero bets all in (20k)
SB: folds
BB: angrily folds (throwing cards into the muck)

Analysis:
This could be a slightly loose open in UTG + 2. Aces aren't really great w/o low card. Hero would also be OOP...
Flop: This felt like a good overship spot to price out majority of ranges (low draws, 1p, etc...). It may be a little loose, but this seems like a prime spot to overshove.
Villains only really call with (top set, NLD + 2p), so this is a good spot to force peopole to gamble and take down a decent sized pot.

---------------
This occurred 5 hands later.
Hero dealt: AAK8 (A8 suited) in MP.

2 limps (including big stack/table chip leader).
Hero also shoved limping big stack (and one other player).

Analysis:
Preflop: Hero should really be openshoving wider in this spot than really bad aces...But, it seems overly profitable and some villains may think hero is bullying too.
It can be good for metagame to discourage limping at this stage in the MTT with ~20BBs.

---------------
Twitter: 919p
Feels like i overship more in NLO8. Stole small pot at second table just before it broke.

Reflection after this part: It's definitely something to remember: Overbetting/overshipping with parts of range is good and provides balance.

---------------
Table change.
No reads as hero was only at this table for a short time.

Moved to new table. Ak42 a2ss < a266 raise and hero jams. J7497 From 26k to 17k at 200 600 1200. 35 remain. 12 pay.

Hero had ~26k
Villain had ~9k

Preflop:
Villain: raises to ~3600
Hero: raises all in (27k)
Villain: calls all in for 9k

Villain shows: A662 (a62 suited)

Board: J7497

Hero's stack: 17k

Analysis:
Preflop: Raise is standard for value as villain will likely call off wide.

---------------
Table change.
New Table reads:
1 bigger, old guy
2
3 3better from earlier table
4 random old guy/chip leader
5
6 hero
7 older person, nice guy
8
9 tatoo guy

---------------
Blinds: 500/1000/100

Hero's stack: 17500
Seat 5 - Chip leader has ~200k
Seat 1 - BB has ~120k
Other players have ~40-70k

At this point, hero had been at table 7 hands and hero saw some maniac play from seat 5 with hands going to showdown.

Hero dealt: Ac Ks 6d 3c

Preflop:
Vil5: raises to 3500
Hero: reraises all in to 17500
Vil1: calls
Vil5: calls

Board: As Ks 4d 9s 7d
(both villains checked all 3 streets)

Vil5: Kh Qs Qd Ts
Vil1: Ah 4h 5d 3c

Analysis:
Preflop raise is for value as villain was a maniac. Hero raises for value against a wide calling range.
Unfortunately, another player calls. It's not a completely horrible spot 3 ways.
Hero could have also flatted behind as well as hero likely has an edge with position...

---------------
Hero out: 33rd, 12 places pay
100 entries, 148 rebuys/addons

---------------
Overall analysis:
1. This was hero's first live NLO8 MTT.
2. Hero had played some NLO8 MTTs on Bovada prior to this MTT in preparation (plus watching videos such as "In a Nutshell" and talking strat with various friends.
3. The field was very weak-tight and limped often (as is the case in many PLO8/PLO cash games and MTTs.
4. Hero really only saw 1 overbet jam (it was a big semi-bluff), but otherwise it was rather weak tight and players weren't making any big bets. It felt more like a NLHE MTT with smaller bet sizes.
5. There were definitely few flop c/r all ins, which seemed to be the trend in a lot of NLO8 cash/MTTs.
6. Villains seemed to be limping preflop very often, even with ~7-8 BB.
